The interposer can include a substrate and first and second electrical connectors mounted to the substrate. The first electrical connector is configured to mate with a hard disk drive subassembly, and the second electrical connector is configured to mate with a flat flex circuit subassembly. The hard disk drive subassembly includes a hard disk drive case, a printed circuit board, and a third electrical connector mounted to the printed circuit board. The first and third electrical connectors are configured to mate with each other through the hard disk drive case so as to mate the interposer to the hard disk drive subassembly. The hard disk drive case can be hermetically sealed to the substrate of the interposer to prevent gas leakage

Hermetically sealed electrical connector assembly

An electrical connector can includes a connector housing that includes a housing body and further includes at least one fulcrum supported by the housing body. The electrical connector further includes at least one electrical contact supported by the connector housing, the at least one electrical contact configured to mate with a complementary electrical contact of a complementary electrical connector. The electrical connector further includes a latch assembly. The latch assembly can include an actuator and a latch. The actuator can have an actuator portion, an attachment portion, and at least one arm that extends between the actuator portion and the attachment portion. The latch can have a latch body that defines an attachment portion that is configured to be attached to the attachment portion of the actuator, such that movement of the actuator in a predetermined direction causes the pivot member to ride along the fulcrum, thereby pivoting the latch from a latched position to an unlatched position.

A tamper-resistant housing assembly may include an internal housing that is wrapped in a flex circuit. The flex circuit can cover an outside surface of the internal housing and can carry a conductive electrical trace. The electrical trace can define a continuous electrical path from a first contact pad to a second contact pad, such that piercing the an outer surface of the housing through to the inner surface of the housing interrupts the continuous electrical path.

An electrical connector may retain a substrate in secure, mating engagement with the electrical connector. The electrical connector can include at least one attachment member that is configured to be received in an aperture that extends through the substrate.

Electrical connector with latch

An electrical connector with a flexible printed circuit (FPC) received may carry electrical signals between the FPC and a substrate. Latching mechanisms may serve to position the cap on the body such that the positions facilitate the insertion and retention of the FPC in the cap for a good electrical connection. The FPC may be received loosely in the cap when the cap is in a first position on the body. When the cap is depressed into a second position, the FPC may be compressed between the cap and the body. Mating ends of the contacts may electrically connect to exposed conductive elements of the FPC. Mounting ends of the contacts in the contact housing may electrically connect to the conductive elements on a substrate. If the contacts are compression contacts, the terminals of the contacts may deflect or compress when a force is exerted upon them. The electrical connector may have a sealing surface that is adapted to provide suitable compression against an FPC received by the electrical connector so as to keep out gases or fluids.

An electrical connector receptacle housing is provided that includes protrusions in the housing's contact assembly receiving area. The location of each protrusion corresponds to a location of a well formed in a contact assembly between dual beams of ground contacts. When the contact block is received in the housing, each protrusion is received in a corresponding well. The protrusions may be sized to provide a snug fit as the contact block is received in the receptacle housing. The protrusions thus help minimize the movement of the contact block.

A high speed electrical connector is disclosed. The electrical connector includes a plug portion and a receptacle portion. The plug portion has a first plurality of signal contacts contained in a plug back housing. The receptacle portion is adapted to mate with plug portion and has a second plurality of signal contacts in a receptacle back housing. The plug back housing is adapted to contain the first plurality of signal contacts for both surface mount and thru-hole termination and the receptacle back housing is adapted to contain the second plurality of signal contacts for both surface mount and thru-hole termination.

A preferred embodiment of a modular jack includes a visual indicator for indicating a condition of an electrical signal, and a body capable of receiving at least a portion of a connector plug. The body has a first outer surface located in a first plane, and a second outer surface located in a second plane substantially perpendicular to the first plane. The body defines a pocket for receiving at least a portion of the visual indicator. The pocket extends into the body from the first and the second outer surfaces so that the at least a portion of the visual indicator can be inserted into the pocket in a first direction substantially perpendicular to the first plane, and in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the second plane.

A modular jack for housing magnetic components includes a housing which has a plurality of ports each of which can receive an electrical connector. Extending into each of the ports are a plurality of contacts for connecting to contacts of an electrical connector. The ports may be arranged in a stacked configuration in which case the modular jack is a double deck jack. Attached to the housing may be one or more magnetic housing. Each magnetic housing can house at least one magnetic component, which can be a transformer. Preferably, there is a magnetic housing for every two ports, and the magnetic housing houses a magnetic component for each port. Shields an be installed into the housing between the magnetic components in order to provide isolation of the components. A printed wire board can be attached to the magnetic housing, and a contact carrier having a plurality of contacts can be attached to the printed wire board. The contacts of the housing, the contacts of the contact carrier and the magnetic components of the magnetic housing can be in electrical communication through the printed wire board. The contact carrier can be attached to another electrical component such as a printed circuit board.

The receptacle could comprise: a housing having a mating face and a circuit substrate engaging face; first and second openings in the mating face, arranged in stacked relation, the height of the housing being less than about 0.9 inch; and contact terminals in each of the openings positioned to mate with mating RJ series plugs inserted into the openings. The receptacle could also comprise: a housing with first and second openings, contact terminals in the first opening; and contact terminals in the second opening positioned relative to the contact terminals in the first opening so as to produce an acceptable level of cross-talk therebetween, such as &minus;40 dB. The receptacle could comprise: a housing with first and second openings; and contact terminals. Adjacent contact terminals maintain a centerline distance, and the offset between the first opening and the second opening is a function of the centerline distance of the contact terminals.

A modular jack has an insulative insert having outer walls defining a first recess therein. The insert is mounted within an insulating housing interior section. A cap having outer walls defining a second recess therein is mounted within the insert first recess so that the first and second recesses together form an internal cavity for receiving an electrical device. First and second elongate portions of a conductive contact together securely grasp the insert outer wall and a bridging portion of the contact resides at the insert outer wall edge. The cap also has a rear wall having a rear face that faces in a rear direction, and the contact also has a rear portion adjacent the cap and facing in the rear direction. The cap rear wall rear face extends farther in the rear direction than the contact rear portion. A grounding shield fits over the jack and has a planar rear panel with a rear face that faces in the rear direction. The rear panel covers the cap rear wall rear face and the contact rear portion.

The present invention is a modular jack assembly which includes an outer insulative housing having top and bottom walls and opposed lateral walls while defining an interior section. This housing also has front and rear open ends. This assembly also includes an insulative insert having a top section, an upper side and rear section having a base side and a recess. This jack is positioned so that the upper side of its top section is adjacent to top side of the insulative housing such that its terminal end extends into the interior section of the insulative housing and the rear section at least partially covers the rear open end of the insulative housing. This assembly also includes an electronic component mounted in the rear section of the insulative insert. A conductor is mounted in the electrical insert.

A modular jack comprising an insulative housing having a substantially open front side and a rear side and first and second longitudinal walls. The second longitudinal wall is positioned over said first longitudinal wall in spaced parallel wall. A pair of lateral walls interposed in spaced parallel relation between said first and second longitudinal walls to form at least one transverse plug receiving cavity extending from the substantially open front side of said jack to the rear side. A light emitting diode (LED) module is fixed to one of said lateral sides of the housing to allow for easy visibility and reduced interference with signals to the jack. The LED module is also easily removable to allow field replacement.

A stacked modular jack connector having low cross talk and low combined stack height is disclosed. Low stack height is achieved by disposing contact terminals for stacked pairs of receptacles in a single coplanar array of interleaved terminals. The arrays are located between the receptacles. One receptacle of each pair is laterally offset from the other. For Ethernet applications, cross talk is minimized by arranging first, second, third and sixth terminals of a ten terminal array into a contact group of the first receptacle and fifth, eighth, ninth and tenth terminals of the array into a contact group of the second receptacle. Circuit board space requirements are minimized by arranging the terminal tails of both groups of terminals in a single line.
