A security system is provided. The security system includes a control panel located within a secured space, a plurality of sensors coupled to the control panel that detect security events within the secured space, a user interface within the secured area coupled to the control panel, a camera located in the user interface that collects video images in the secured space surrounding the user interface upon activation of one of the plurality of sensors, a sound transducer located in the user interface, a programmed processor within one of the user interface and the control panel that supports VoIP calls between a called or calling party and the user interface and a control button on the user interface that activates a VoIP connection with a called or calling party through the user interface and control panel.

A floatable flood detector has a watertight housing that carries internally a wireless transmitter and a fluid sensor. In the presence of sensed fluid, an alarm message can be transmitted by the transmitter to a displaced monitoring unit. The sensor has a portion exposed to the fluid of interest outside of the housing. The antenna is carried, at least at a fluid level, relative to the floating housing.

An HVAC controller such as a thermostat may include a housing having an aperture formed within the housing and a proximity sensor that is disposed within the housing proximate the aperture. The proximity sensor may include a sense die that has a first IR detector and a second IR detector, and a lens element disposed in front of the sense die. The lens element may be shifted to one side to preferentially direct incident IR energy to the first IR detector at the expense of the second IR detector. An IR energy transparent element may be disposed in front of the lens element, and may include a portion that fits into and seals the aperture formed within the housing. A controller may be configured to receive an electrical signal from the proximity sensor indicating an approach of an individual towards the thermostat, and in response, wake-up a user interface.

This invention relates generally to the field of surveillance systems, and in particular to fault and alarm condition reporting to a monitoring system. The surveillance system comprises a plurality of identification sensors and a measurement device coupled to each of the plurality of identification sensors for measuring the acceleration thereof. A detection system connected with each of the plurality of identification sensors processes acceleration data measured from each of the measurement devices. Based on the processing of the acceleration data, an alert is generated by an alert system.

A door blocker includes a wireless transmitter coupled to a forced entry sensor. In response to sensing a stressed blocking element the transmitter emits an alarm indicator. At the same time, the blocking element continues to limit movement of the door relative to the frame to exclude an intruder.

A key fob with a housing into which a deadbolt key is mounted such that the shank protrudes therefrom, enabling a user to turn the housing and cause the key to lock or unlock the door. Within the keyfob are a pair of switches or other sensing means configured to close on either the turning of the housing in a first (clockwise) direction or a second (counterclockwise) direction. Based on the direction the housing is turned, either a first coded signal or a second coded signal is transmitted to a control panel. The control panel will then either arm or disarm the security system based on how it has been programmed during installation. This enables the user to easily arm the system when the door is being locked and disarm the system when the door is being unlocked without requiring a separate action on the part of the user.

A rotatable wireless electrical coupler is disclosed that presents a wireless alternative to mechanical slip rings, such as are used in rotatable mechanical assemblies such as dome cameras. The rotatable wireless electrical coupler is designed to provide for the wireless transfer therethrough of electrical power, video and data signals. A rotatable multi-function transformer of the electrical coupler is designed primarily for the transfer of electrical power therethrough, and can also be used for the transfer of data signals. A rotatable electrical capacitor of the electrical coupler is designed primarily for the transfer of video data signals therethrough, and can also be used for the transfer of control and feedback data signals. In a dome camera, the rotatable wireless electrical coupler transfers power and data signals to and from a rotatable platform/section on which is mounted a video camera, pan and tilt motors and other associated electrical components.

A lock position detection device includes a door locking mechanism, a magnetic field sensor such as a reed switch and a wireless transmitter. A magnet enters proximity of the sensor when the actuator is operated to one position and causes the sensor to output a first signal via the RF transmitter, and exits proximity of the sensor when the actuator is operated to another position and causes the sensor to output a second signal. A magnetic field shield is located with respect to the sensor to prevent a magnetic field from outside the door from being detected by the sensor. The magnet is coupled to the door locking mechanism such that the magnet enters and exits proximity of the sensor at an angle generally perpendicular to the sensor when the actuator is operated between positions, substantially along a line that is offset from a centerline of the reed switch.

A ceiling-mounted passive infrared detector assembly () that has three main components: a junction box () which is adapted to be mounted within an opening in a ceiling; a cover () adapted to mate with the junction box (); and an electronic passive infrared detector subassembly () including an infrared sensor () and processing circuitry () for processing electrical signals generated by the infrared sensor () and producing output signals. The cover () has mounting means such as a flange () adapted to mount to the junction box () (or directly to a ceiling if a junction box is not used) and an extended portion () with a cavity () and an aperture (). The cover () also has a lens array () located across the aperture (). The electronic passive infrared detector subassembly () is located with respect to the cover () such that the infrared sensor () is aligned with the lens array () when the cover () is mounted to the junction box () such that the infrared sensor () detects infrared energy passed through the lens array () from a field of view defined by the juxtaposition of the lens array () and the infrared sensor ().

A MEM's reed switch array is provided having a first switch having a sensitivity causing the first switch to open or close due to a magnetic flux, and a second switch of lesser sensitivity than the first switch causing the second switch to open or close due to a magnetic flux. The first switch can be parallel to the second switch, or the first switch can be proximate to the second switch so that a center line of the first switch is coaxial to a center line of the second switch. Further, a security device for residential and/or commercial use is provided, having a magnet housing having a magnet, a switch housing having a MEM's reed switch array with a first switch and a second switch, and a gap between the magnet housing and the switch housing.

A space safety apparatus monitoring a volume of space encompassing a field of view (FOV) for detecting an intrusion including a gas or vapor, and includes a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) having mirror elements in a mirror array for reflecting infra-red (IR) energy beam collected from the FOV and an IR energy detector for detecting the IR energy reflected by the MEMS array and converting the IR energy to an output signal. A processor adjusts an angle of an element of the MEMS mirror array by varying a control signal, or by switching from one to another focusing element. The method includes detection in a volume of space by positioning a MEMS mirror array to reflect IR signal with respect to active elements of an IR detector; and collecting IR energy from an iportion of the FOV.

MEMS based space safety infrared sensor apparatus and method for detecting a gas or vapor

An apparatus and method are provided for a security device for residential and/or commercial use. A first magnetic member has a first magnet with a north and south pole, and a second magnetic member has a second magnet with a south and north pole. Contact between the north pole of the first magnet and south pole of the second magnet, or vice versa, completes an electrical circuit by conducting electricity between the first and second magnets, and a magnetic force between the first and second magnets holds the first and second magnets in contact. The electrical circuit is broken when a force sufficient to overcome the magnetic force is applied to separate the first and second magnets. When contact between the first magnet and second magnet is broken off, such as by opening a door or window, the electrical circuit is broken, and an alarm is triggered.

A tamper detection switch is primarily for use in an enclosure of a security system component. The enclosure has a base and a cover that may be repositioned relative to the base. One of the cover and the base holds a conductive magnetic element free to translate within a predetermined range generally perpendicular to the respective cover or base. The other of the cover and the base holds at least two ferrous metal contacts of an open tamper circuit in proximity of a conductive magnetic element. In the closed position the conductive magnetic element bridges the ferrous contacts and closes the tamper circuit. Attempts to tamper with the enclosure separate the ferrous contacts from the conductive magnetic element, opening the tamper circuit and signaling a possible attack.
