A method and concept for employing a T-sin-alpha kill vehicle with energy flexibility is disclosed. The energy flexibility method applies divert pulses at multiple phases of the kill vehicle flight time and allows for range extension to increase the kill vehicle coverage of targets outside the normal reach, reaction to target updates, removal of navigation error, and homing divert to intercept the target. Each of these capabilities is essential to the successful intercept of exo-atmospheric ballistic targets in their midcourse phase of flight. A flight vehicle includes a main body, a number of attitude control mechanisms, a control unit, a divert system, a sensor unit, and an attitude control system. The divert system provides acceleration of the flight vehicle in a desired direction. The sensor unit tracks a target along a line of sight (LOS) of the sensor unit. The attitude control system maintains an orientation of the main body.

Flexible energy management kill vehicle for exo-atmospheric intercept

The development of a nearly-omni-directional pressure probe for three-velocity-component and pressure measurements is described, with particular focus on the techniques and technology employed in probe construction, calibration, electronic interfacing and frequency-response study. The device eliminates the velocity directionality limitations of current multi-hole probes and makes a valuable, rugged tool for use in complex 3-D flow mapping and aerodynamic design and evaluation, in basic research as well as industrial development settings. The probe performance is demonstrated in a flowfield with flow reversal downstream of a backward-facing step. The probe provides low-frequency response capabilities. The probe's main element is a multi-pressure port spherical head, which may include eighteen ports. Fiber optic interferometry techniques may be incorporated to significantly increase frequency response.

Multi-directional, three component velocity measurement pressure probe

This invention relates to a cutter apparatus operable to slice a block of cheese or other foodstuffs having a main support assembly with a cutter means mounted thereon. The main support assembly is provided with a rectangular box type structure having an upper top support plate to receive the foodstuffs thereon for a cutting operation. The cutter means includes a plurality, namely four (4), cutter actuator assembly. Each cutter actuator assembly includes a cutter assembly interconnected to a retractable filament assembly. Each cutter assembly includes a cutter filament member connected to an actuator handle member with the filament member being adapted to be pulled laterally from the main support assembly due to the retractable filament assembly. The retractable filament assembly is additionally operable on release of an actuator lever member to provide a biasing force to hold the cutter filament member in an extended position or selectively retract the same within the main support assembly. The cutter filament members are adapted to be placed across the top support plate before the foodstuff is placed thereon for a subsequent upward cutting operation of the cutter filament members through the foodstuff to slice same into a plurality of substantially equal pieces.
