Methods and apparatus for presenting dynamic mapping information in a wireless network are useful in locating or identifying a desired service-providing device within the wireless network relative to a service-requesting device. The mapping information may be physical network mapping or it may be physical network mapping combined with logical network mapping. The mapping may further include supplemental information regarding the network and its devices. The physical network mapping provides information regarding the location of a service-providing device relative to a service-requesting device. Dynamic mapping information accommodates transient users of the wireless network, facilitating location or identification of a desired service-providing device in an unfamiliar network or surrounding.

Dynamic mapping of wireless network devices

Systems and procedures are described for an imaging device to download media parameters from a remote server computer that is connected to the imaging device across a network. Specifically, the imaging device detects a media ID from print media. Responsive to detecting the media ID, the imaging device downloads a set of media parameters that correspond to the Media ID from the server computer. The imaging device uses these downloaded media parameters to automatically configure itself.

The flexible printing system is comprised of a printer that has printing characteristics that can be updated. A printer cartridge comprises printer data memory that either stores new printing characteristics or stores a location from the Internet from which these characteristics can be downloaded. The printer accesses the cartridge's printer data memory and checks the stored printing characteristics. If the printer can use these characteristics and they differ from the characteristics that are presently being used by the printer, the printer updates its printing characteristics using the printer data memory's printing characteristics. In one embodiment, the printer characteristics are color tables and dithering algorithms.

Systems and procedures are described to automatically configure an imaging device to form images on sheets of print media that are loaded in the imaging device. To accomplish this, the imaging device reads, or senses a single marking from at least one side of the sheet of print media. The marking includes data; the data provides orientation information with respect to how the print sheet is loaded in the imaging device. The data further includes a set of media parameter information corresponding to the sheet of print media. The imaging device configures itself to form images on the sheet of print media based on at least a portion of the sensed data from the sheet of print media.

A scale is provided, the scale including a cavity having a resonant frequency which is alterable with variations in mass of a load applied to the cavity. The scale also typically includes a comparator operatively coupled with the cavity to detect actual resonant frequency under the load, to compare such actual resonant frequency with a reference resonant frequency, and to produce a difference signal indicative of mass of the load.

The user interaction site is configured to receive a notification from the computer peripheral device via the messaging system of a need to order a consumable. The user interaction site is provided within one of: a single-connection environment as an end user interface; an unmanaged network environment as a workgroup administrator interface; and a server-based centralized network environment as a centralized system administrator interface. A method is also provided.

Self-adjusting consumable order-assistance system and method

An image forming device, an image forming system, and a method of facilitating ordering of an imaging consumable are provided. In one aspect, an image forming device includes storage circuitry configured to store an initial variable configured to control the formulation of an initial one of a plurality of consumable order assist functions configured to assist replenishment of an imaging consumable; imaging circuitry configured to consume the imaging consumable to form hard images; a sensor configured to monitor a status of the imaging consumable and to output a signal indicative of the status; processing circuitry configured to replace the initial variable with another variable configured to control the formulation of another of the consumable order assist functions, to receive the signal from the sensor, and to formulate the another consumable order assist function responsive to reception of the signal and the another variable; and an interface configured to communicate the another consumable order assist function externally of the image forming device.

Image forming device, an image forming system, and a method of facilitating ordering of an imaging consumable

An apparatus, an article of manufacture, and a method of configuring an image forming device are provided. According to one aspect of the present invention, an apparatus operable to configure an image forming device includes an interface configured to couple with an image forming device configured to use an imaging consumable to form hard images, the image forming device being initially configured to cause the formation of an initial one of a plurality of consumable order assist functions with respect to replenishment of the imaging consumable within the image forming device and responsive to a status of the imaging consumable within the image forming device; and processing circuitry configured to communicate with the image forming device using the interface to configure the image forming device to cause the formation of another one of the consumable order assist functions with respect to replenishment of the imaging consumable within the image forming device and responsive to the status of the imaging consumable within the image forming device.
