An apparatus for producing a black matrix-type phosphor screen of a cathode ray tube is disclosed, which includes a carbon coating nozzle for coating a carbon slurry on a cathode ray tube panel, a tank for containing the carbon slurry, a supplying system for supplying the carbon slurry from the carbon slurry tank into the carbon coating nozzle and a collecting system for collecting excess carbon slurry produced from the carbon coating nozzle back into the carbon slurry tank, and a carbon slurry regenerating device using an ion-exchange resin is provided. The regenerating device can be placed in at least one of the supplying system, the collecting system and the carbon slurry tank.

Carbon slurry regeneration apparatus

A method for regenerating a carbon slurry used to produce a black matrix-type phosphor screen of a cathode ray tube is disclosed, in which excess carbon slurry is collected after the completion of a carbon-coating process onto a cathode ray tube panel. This collected carbon slurry is regenerated by means of an ion-exchange resin.

Carbon slurry regeneration method

A method for manufacturing a color cathode ray tube, and in particular, for conditioning the surface of a panel of a color cathode ray tube to prepare it for the application of a pattern of color phosphors while minimizing the effects of reflections from interfaces in the panel. The method consists of coating a reciprocity-failing photoresist layer on the inner surface of the panel, drying the layer with a stream of low dew point air, exposing the layer to actinic radiation through a patterned mask to provide insoluble polymerized areas in preselected portions of the layer, developing the layer with a developing solution to remove unpolymerized areas while leaving the polmerized areas, applying an aqueous suspension of light absorptive material to the panel to replace the developing solution with the light absorptive material, drying the light absorptive material, applying an oxidizing solution to the panel to cause the polymerized areas to become water soluble, and removing the polymerized areas and the light absorptive material before applying the phosphors.

Radiation exposure method of manufacturing a color cathode ray tube

Red cathode ray phosphors are coated with a vapor deposited layer of cadmium selenide in order to achieve controlled color shifts in the light output of the phosphors. Such coated phosphors are especially suited for color television and monitor applications.

Method of vapor coating phosphor particles

The red and blue color cathode ray tube phosphors for color television are pigmented with a coating of an aqueous-insoluble silicate-based glass matrix containing pigment particles. When incorporated into a tridot color cathode ray tube, the contrast of the tube is improved. The coated particles are formed by dispersing the particles in a slurry with a silicate, the pigment particles and an optional wetting agent, and evaporating the slurry to dryness. The dried coated particles are then heated in order to insolubilize the glass matrix, and soluble ions are then removed by washing.

Cathode ray phosphor compositions that are resistant to photodeposition slurries consist essentially of discrete particles of a phosphor material having a core of silver-activated zinc sulfide and a coating over a substantial amount of the external surfaces of a composition represented by the formula, Mg.sub.2 P.sub.2 O.sub.7 :Al.sub.4 (P.sub.2 O.sub.7).sub.3 . xSiO.sub.2 wherein the coating is at a sufficient level on the surfaces to provide a PO.sub.4 content of the composition of from about 0.05% to about 0.2% by weight and the SiO.sub.2 content sufficient to impart flowability. The coating composition is formed by a slurry process that enables a uniform and adherent coating to be deposited on the surfaces of the particles of silver-activated zinc sulfide.
