In some implementations, a robotic device may receive, from a first light detection and ranging (LIDAR) sensor and a second LIDAR sensor, calibration data associated with a physical environment of a robotic arm of the robotic device. The robotic device may determine, based on the calibration data, a configuration of a boundary for the robotic arm. The robotic device may position, relative to the robotic arm, the first LIDAR sensor at a first position and the second LIDAR sensor at a second position to sense an activity within the boundary. The robotic device may monitor the boundary based on first sensor data from the first LIDAR sensor and second sensor data from the second LIDAR sensor. The robotic device may disable, based on the first sensor data or the second sensor data indicating the activity associated with the boundary, the robotic arm from moving within the boundary.

An effector system includes: a plurality of effector assemblies configured to engage a target object; a base having a plurality of mounting surfaces for movably supporting the effector assemblies; a plurality of actuators coupled to the base, each actuator including: an actuator housing defining a conduit having a first end and a second end; an output member slidable within the conduit; a first shape-memory transducer affixed between the first end and the output member; a second shape-memory transducer affixed between the second end and the output member; an electrical subassembly configured to control each actuator to cause the output member to slide towards a selected one of the first end and the second end; and a plurality of linkages between respective output members and effector assemblies, each linkage configured to move a corresponding effector assembly relative to the base in response to sliding of the respective output member.

An effector system comprises: an effector assembly including: a first segment having a conduit between a proximal end and a distal end, an inner surface of the conduit having a conductive portion and a resistive portion; an output member slidable within the conduit, the output member having a conductive exterior contacting the inner surface; a first shape-memory transducer affixed between the proximal end and the output member; and a second shape-memory transducer affixed between the distal end and the output member; and a controller configured to: selectively energize: (i) the first shape-memory transducer to slide the output member in a first direction, (ii) the second shape-memory transducer to slide the output member in a second direction, or (iii) the resistive portion of the inner surface; and in response to energizing the resistive portion, determine a position of the output member.

The adhesive label application system may remove, via a first mechanism, a portion of the label from the adhesive application zone. The adhesive label application system may convey, via a second mechanism, an adhesive, of an adhesive-carrying tape, to the adhesive application zone. The adhesive label application system may position, via the first mechanism, the portion of the label within the adhesive application zone after the adhesive is positioned within the adhesive application zone. The adhesive label application system may press, via a third mechanism, the portion of the label to the adhesive to apply the adhesive to the label. The adhesive label application system may configure the label to be adhered to a receiving surface via the adhesive.

A label modification unit may receive a label modification input that indicates a label modification associated with content being written to a label or erased from the label. The label modification unit may identify an area of the label that is associated with the label modification according to the label modification input. The label modification unit may determine, based on a size of the area, a spot size of a light beam that is configured to be emitted by a laser printhead to modify the content within the area. The label modification unit may determine, based on the spot size and the content, an optical path configuration for the laser printhead. The label modification unit may operate the laser printhead according to the optical path configuration to write the content to the area or erase the content from the area.

A product status detection system includes a mobile automation apparatus having a sensor to capture data representing a shelf supporting products, responsive to data capture instructions. The system includes a server in communication with the mobile apparatus, having: a mobile apparatus controller to generate data capture instructions for the mobile apparatus; a repository to store captured data from the mobile apparatus; a primary object generator to generate primary data objects from the captured data, each including a location in a common frame of reference; a secondary object generator to generate and store secondary data objects based on the primary data objects; a detector to identify mismatches between reference data and the secondary data objects; and an alert generator to select a subset of the mismatches, and generate and transmit a status alert corresponding to the subset. The system also includes a client device to receive and display the status alert.

An apparatus for labeling support structures includes: a chassis having a locomotive assembly, and supporting a label generator and an effector assembly with an end movable relative to the chassis and carrying a label manipulator with an image sensor; a controller coupled to the locomotive assembly, label generator, effector assembly and label manipulator, and configured to: obtain label placement data defining a location relative to a support structure reference feature for replacement of a previous label with a new label; control the locomotive assembly to travel to the support structure; detect the reference feature via image data captured at the image sensor; control the effector assembly to place the label manipulator at the location relative to the reference feature; control the effector assembly and the label manipulator to remove and discard the previous label, retrieve the new label from the label generator, and place the new label at the location.

A control method includes: storing, at a control server, respective identifiers for a plurality of sub-regions in a facility; for each sub-region identifier, a location of the sub-region in the facility and an operational constraint associated with a mobile automation apparatus; at the control server: obtaining a job definition indicating a set of the sub-region identifiers and a task; retrieving the locations and the operational constraints corresponding to the set of sub-region identifiers from the repository; allocating the set of sub-region identifiers to a plurality of subsets of sub-region identifiers, each subset having a shared common operational constraint; for each subset of sub-region identifiers, generating a task fragment containing the subset of sub-region identifiers, and the common operational constraint; and sending the task fragments and an identifier of the task to the mobile automation apparatus for performance of the task at each of the set of sub-region identifiers.
