An automated laboratory system includes a vertical shelving system including a frame and at least one shelf movably mounted to the frame such that the at least one shelf is movable relative to the frame between a docked position and an undocked position, the at least one shelf being configured to carry at least one instrument. Described herein are D4 receptor-selective compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from H and an acid labile protecting group; and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently selected from H, radioisotopic halo, loweralkoxy and tri(loweralkyl)tin; and salts, solvates or hydrates thereof. Also described is the use of these compounds as pharmaceuticals to treat indications for which a dopamine D4 receptor antagonist is indicated. Radiolabeled compounds are useful particularly to image localization of D4 receptor in the human brain, and can therefore aid in the diagnosis of schizophrenia and other medical conditions in which the D4 receptor is implicated.
