A laminated core for a motor includes a plurality of laminations each of which are disposed in a non-spaced relation to an adjacent lamination and each of which have a disc-like configuration and wherein the plurality of laminations are each dimensioned and configured to provide for a flow of a cooling fluid traveling in a radial direction to a rotational axis of the motor. A method of cooling a motor is also presented.

Apparatus and method for cooling rotor and stator motor cores

A core for an electric machine having a first lamination plate with a first staple, a second lamination plate with a second staple and a second hole, and a third lamination plate with a third hole and a third opening is provided. The first and second lamination plates are rotated with respect to one another so that the first staple is positioned through the second hole and is bent over the second lamination plate to secure the first and second lamination plates to one another. Similarly, the second and third lamination plates are rotated with respect to one another so that the second staple is positioned through the third hole and is bent over the third lamination plate to secure the second and third lamination plates to one another. In addition, the first staple that is bent over the second lamination plate is received in the third opening.

Rotated reverse-direction-staple system and method

A reverse-direction staple system for a plurality of members to be stacked on top of one another is provided. The system includes an upwardly extending staple, a staple access hole, and a staple clearance opening defined in each member to be stacked. The upwardly extending staple of each member extends through the staple access hole of a subsequent member and forms a bent staple over the subsequent member. In addition, the bent staples are received in the staple clearance opening of a second subsequent member.

Reverse-direction-staple system and method

A laminated plate assembly in which the laminations in a stack are secured together by means of one or more interlocks or tabs that project from the uppermost lamination in the assembly through holes or slots in all the other laminations in the assembly, or around the periphery of the other laminations in the assembly, with each tab being bent or pressed against the underside of the bottom lamination in the assembly. This secures all the laminations in the stack together, much like a staple secures papers in a stack together, allowing for additional handling and processing of the laminated plate assembly without concern that the laminated plates in the stack will become misaligned or even become removed from the stack.

Interlock tabs for laminations

A method and apparatus for progressively cutting, piercing, bending, stacking, and interlocking lamination assemblies from a strip of laminate. The stacked laminations are mechanically interlocked with a staple-style interlock that secures all the laminations in the stack together. All the steps in the process of forming, stacking and interlocking are done within the tool and die assembly, eliminating the need for additional equipment to stack and interlock assemblies.

Assembly method for stamped and cupped laminations

A computer-implemented method for evaluating tool performance is described which includes maintaining tool history data in an electronic memory, updating the tool history data with tool servicing data, determining from the tool history and servicing data a predicted tool remaining useful life, and displaying the predicted useful life on a computer output device. Average tool data is compared to tool benchmark data to determine tool efficiency. Tool servicing, performance and efficiency data are maintained in a spreadsheet format. Data entered into one spreadsheet is used to update a plurality of spreadsheets. The spreadsheet format allows manufacturers to keep abreast of tool performance over time and in a plurality of locations and to anticipate tool rebuild and replacement requirements.

Methods and apparatus for evaluating tool performance

A method for making a core for one of a rotor and a stator for use in an electric motor, the core being formed from a plurality of laminations, includes forming a predetermined number of through-material slots in a first portion of a material stock, forming at least one angled interlocking projection in the material stock, the projection having a circumferential length and being formed so that at least a portion of the projection remains integral with the material stock, cutting the material stock to define a receiving opening corresponding to the interlocking projection, the receiving opening positioned relative to the projection at an angle &phgr; that is a whole number multiple of &bgr;, where &bgr; is an angle defined as a ratio of 360 degrees to the number of slots and cutting the material stock to form a first substantially circular lamination. Second and third laminations are formed in kind. The second lamination is rotated relative to the first lamination and positioned on the first lamination such that the projection from the first lamination engages the receiving opening in the second lamination. The third lamination is positioned on and rotated relative to the second lamination in kind to form the core.

Method for forming motor with rotor and stator core paired interlocks

A stator core for a motor includes a plurality of laminations in a stacked formation one on another defining a generally circular inner periphery for receipt of a motor rotor. Each lamination defines an axis therethrough that is collinear with an axis of each lamination in the stacked formation. Each lamination is rotated about its axis relative to adjacent laminations a predetermined index angle. The laminations have first and second surfaces and are configured such that the core defines at least one inner lamination having laminations adjacent to both the first and second sides and outer laminations having laminations adjacent to one of the first and second sides. Each lamination has a predetermined number of circumferentially equally spaced slots extending radially inwardly from an inner edge of the lamination. The slots define conductor receiving regions therein. Each inner lamination includes at least one interlocking pair including a projection formed in one of the first and second surfaces at a predetermined radial distance from the axis. The projection extends generally transverse from a plane of the lamination. Each interlocking pair further defines a shadow formed therein that is at the same predetermined radial distance from the axis as is the projection. The shadow is spaced from the projection by an angle, .alpha., wherein each projection of a lamination is configured to reside within a shadow of a respective adjacent lamination when the laminations are in their stacked formation.

Paired interlocks for flexible indexing of rotated stator cores

A motor rotor or stator core is formed of a plurality of stacked generally circular laminations. The stack defines at least one inner lamination having laminations positioned adjacent to both sides of the lamination. Each lamination has a predetermined number of circumferentially equally spaced slots or bar elements extending radially at about an edge thereof. The inner laminations include at least one interlocking projection formed in one of the surfaces at a predetermined radial distance from the center of the lamination. The laminations further define at least one projection receiving region formed therein to engage the projection when the laminations arc in the stacked formation. The projection receiving region is spaced from the interlocking projection by an angle .phi. that is a whole number multiple of .beta., where .beta. is an angle defined as a ratio of 360 degrees to the number of slots. A method for making the stacked core is also disclosed.
