A method and system for automatically estimating budget items based on past transactions and generating a cash flow forecast for one or more accounts. A budget item is determined for each of a plurality of categories of transactions. A frequency and amount of each budget item is determined as a function of an actual transaction count, a date span of actual transactions, and a sum of actual transaction amounts&#x2014;all of the transactions occurring in the past. For each budget item, a cash flow transaction is determined as a function of a posting date criterion and a selected forecast period. A running balance of the cash flow transactions is determined and displayed. Through the display, a user is enabled to modify individual cash flow transactions to generate a new cash flow forecast, or generate an alternate cash flow forecast that can be compared to the original cash flow forecast.

Systems and methods for defining at least one visual-display characteristic of at least one user-interface control are disclosed. In accordance with various embodiments of the invention, a dialog template specifies at least one style selector for the at least one user-interface control. A transformation module extracts the at least one style selector from the dialog template. A style sheet defines at least one visual-display-characteristic value that is applicable to the at least one user-interface control and that is associated with the at least one style selector. A style sheet-parsing engine uses the at least one style selector to retrieve the at least one visual-display-characteristic value from the style sheet. And a user-interface-control-drawing module draws the at least one user-interface control in accordance with the at least one visual-display-characteristic value retrieved by the style sheet-parsing engine.

Defining the visual appearance of user-interface controls

Unreconciled information regarding financial account transactions is received from multiple sources. Transactions identified in the information received from one of the sources are classified according to the probability of matching a transaction identified in information received from another source. Transactions identified in both sources are displayed in a common user interface, together with account balances adjusted for those transactions. The user is able to accept the classification, and as to at least some classes of transactions, change the classification or the matching transaction. The unaccepted transactions may be rendered so as to indicate their unaccepted state.

Automated financial register reconciliation in a combined user interface

Multiple data items having at least one outlying data item are displayed so as to avoid obscuring the display of non-outlying data items. In this manner, a graphical representation of multiple data items such as, e.g., a bar graph is made more useful. A threshold value is used for determining whether each data item is an outlier. Each data item that is an outlier is graphically represented in modified form to indicate that it is not displayed at the same scale as non-outlying data items. Multiple outlying data items can be represented as images scaled with regard to other outlying data items.
