A guide insert for use in insertion of a medical tool into a patient and an associated method of using the guide insert in a medical device are disclosed. The guide insert includes a base sized and shaped to be inserted into an opening of a grid of the medical device, a rotatable structure configured to fit on or within the base, and a securing cap configured to secure the rotatable structure to the base and to prevent rotation of the rotatable structure when secured.

The system and method of the invention pertains to an MR-guided breast biopsy procedure, specifically as to quickly identifying the biopsy location. More particularly, the system utilizes a diagnostic imaging modality such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to locate one or more lesions in a human breast. Non-rigid registration between uncompressed screening images (where the lesion has been previously identified) and the compressed biopsy images enables easier identification of the biopsy site, hence shortening the biopsy procedure.

Systems and methods for landmark correction in magnetic resonance imaging

Embodiments of a method, a tracking system, an MRI system, and a non-transitory computer readable medium that stores instructions for simultaneous imaging and tracking are presented. A designated signal and one or more characteristics corresponding to a plurality of imaging gradient waveforms are received. Further, a tracking pulse sequence is synchronized with an imaging pulse sequence at a determined point based on the designated signal. The tracking pulse sequence is then applied simultaneously with the imaging pulse sequence for acquiring corresponding response signals from an interventional device that includes at least one tracking coil and a tracking source configured to generate response signals at a tracking resonant frequency different from an imaging resonant frequency. A location of the tracking coil within or outside body of a subject is determined based on the response signals received from the tracking source and the characteristics corresponding to the imaging gradient waveforms.

Methods and systems for tracking an interventional device

A system and method for an MRI apparatus includes an MRI system having a computer programmed to initiate a first scan procedure to acquire MR data and locate a feature of interest of the object, initiate a second scan procedure when a feature of interest of the object is located, and determine if an anomaly of the feature of interest exists. The computer is programmed to initiate a third scan procedure to scan the anomaly and reconstruct an image of the located anomaly if the anomaly exists. The first scan procedure includes a scan table motion and scan data acquisition commands. The second scan procedure includes scan table motion and scan data acquisition commands to acquire MR data from the feature of interest. The third scan procedure includes scan table motion and scan data acquisition commands to acquire MR data from the located anomaly.

System and method for MR image scan and analysis

A method for tracking a device used in an imaging system is provided. The method includes using a trigger for initiating a determination of multiple device locations. The scan parameters are then adjusted using the multiple device locations. Finally, a dynamically corrected image is acquired, where the adjusted scan parameters provide an offset for at least one scan parameter.

System and method for correcting motion artifacts in imaging

An imaging and interventional system and methods are provided. The system comprises an imaging device for acquiring volumetric image data for an anatomical region of interest, a catheter for acquiring electrophysiological (EP) measurements of the anatomical region of interest, the catheter having at least one tracking coil for detecting signals indicative of a position of the catheter, and, a processor coupled to the catheter for receiving the EP measurements and signals indicative of the position of the catheter. The position of the catheter and EP measurements are combined and superimposed on a resultant image. The method comprises acquiring volumetric image data for an anatomical region of interest, acquiring position data for a catheter inserted in the region of interest, obtaining electrophysiological (EP) measurements for the region of interest and combining the image data, position data and EP measurements into a resultant image for use in the interventional procedure.

System and method for interventional procedures using MRI

Secondary data set information is incorporated into a primary data set (such as a digital image) retaining a desired dynamic range and retaining the original primary set data quality. The secondary data set information is 'smuggled' into the least significant bits of the primary data set to result in an enhanced data set. If desired, the primary data word can be shifted toward the most significant bit. The enhanced data set may be viewed as if it were the original primary data set with existing playback devices, however it now includes additional 'smuggled' information which may be played back in coordination with the primary data set information. One example is flow-direction information &lsquo;smuggled&rsquo; into an angiographic image. The least significant bits of the enhanced data words may be used to select the color map and color code the images. A user-adjustable intensity threshold can also be employed to select between color maps. Information stored in this fashion results in a substantial savings in disk storage requirements. Also, since the information of the primary and secondary data sets are merged into a single word, they will remain together throughout many different types of processing, such as maximum intensity projection in volumetric imaging.

An insertable intracavity probe for use in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and therapy of a region of interest proximal to a cavity, the probe having a substantially rigid probe shell for insertion into the cavity. The probe shell is adapted to incorporate at least one device for imaging the region of interest. A guide track is incorporated in the probe shell and is adapted to guide at least one biopsy or therapy device to the region of interest during imaging. Intracavity regions include cervical, rectal, and other regions associated with internal cavities of a patient.

Intracavity probe for MR image guided biopsy and delivery of therapy

An MRI system acquires NMR tracking data from a tracking coil imbedded in a medical device which is guided by a physician using real time anatomic images produced from image data acquired by the MRI system. A Hadamard magnetic resonance tracking sequence is used to update the tracking coil location which is indicated on the anatomic image. The Hadamard sequence uses four different acquisition, but tracking coil location is updated after each acquisition, using the new acquisition and three previously acquired acquisitions.

High speed tracking of interventional devices using an MRI system

A scan control device located in the bore of an MRI system magnet includes tracking coils and a display. Location and alignment of the scan control device is tracked by the MRI system using signals acquired from the tracking coils. These signals are also used to update the scan parameters such that the scan plane of the image acquired by the MRI system is controlled by the scan control device location and orientation. The image is produced on the display to provide an attending physician with interactive control of the image from the magnet bore.

A method and apparatus for producing an imaging plane on an image of a structure of interest, such as an anatomical structure, positioned in an MRI system. An operator interactively pages through real-time, planar sections of the structure of interest. Using an input device, the operator selects three separate points in a planar section of the structure under study. Within approximately one second of selection of the third point, the method of the present invention determines the imaging plane containing the three selected points, determines the centroid of the imaging plane centered on a triangle defined by the three selected points, sends such imaging geometry and in-plane offsets of the imaging plane directly to the MRI system to generate a new imaging plane optimally positioned with respect to the selected points on the structure of interest and displaying such new imaging plane. The operator can also selectively maneuver the imaging plane on the image of the structure of interest. The operator uses a graphical user interface in conjunction with the input device and a display screen for producing the imaging plane on the structure of interest. Such graphical user interface is referred to as a three point tool.

An MRI system acquires NMR tracking data from a tracking coil imbedded in an ablation device which is guided by a physician using real time anatomic images produced from image data acquired by the MRI system. The same tracking coil is energized by an RF power source to deliver energy which ablates tissue after the device is guided into proper position.
