A system automatically establishes context information (e.g., determining changes to user interface workflows, screens, menus, and access requirements for devices such as monitors, ventilators, and diagnostic equipment) used by a worker in using healthcare information applications based on patient geographic location (e.g., a room or bed or department). The system addresses the need for a user to sign onto a system with each location change and manually change context information which consumes computer, server and network resources and represent a potential security problem. A healthcare system selects information to be provided to a user in response to received location dependent context data. The system includes a proximity detector for wirelessly detecting presence of an identification tag substantially within a predetermined vicinity of the detector. The identification tag is associated with at least one of, (a) a particular processing device and (b) a particular person. A location detector determines location information indicating a location associated with an identification tag detected by the proximity detector. A workflow processor automatically alters information presented to a user including information associated with a task sequence to be performed by the user for a patient in response to the determined location information.

The quality of welds produced during a percussion welding process are determined in real time by sensing the vibrational impulse signals produced during the percussion welding process, filtering the impulse signal to select a frequency band containing frequency components associated with the vibrations imparted to the forge rod of the welding machine, measuring the mechanical damping characteristics of the selected spectral portion of the signal by determining the log-decrement of the envelope of the signal, and comparing the measured log-decrement value obtained with a preselected threshold value.

Flat pattern equivalents for curved surfaces may be generated by developing a regular network of quadrilateral grid elements resembling a fish net which is mathematically smoothed onto the curved surface. Surface features such as boundaries and cutouts are mapped onto the network. The network is then transformed onto a flat mapping plane to form a grid in a manner analagous to smoothing a fish net mesh onto a flat surface. The surface features are then transformed to the flat surface grid. Individual plies or parts are then cut based upon the flat patterns. The plies or parts will conform to the curved surface exactly.

A beverage dispensing control and quantity monitoring system includes a transponder to transmit a signal from a control cap placed on a liquor bottle to a receiver system and then to a data processing device. The cap fits on the bottle and contains an electronic package which will meter an exact amount of beverage when tilted, thus controlling the amount poured. The cap also transmits to the receiver such data as the operator or bartender pouring the beverage, the type of beverage, the amount of beverage, and any other necessary data such as when the cap is removed from the bottle, when the battery therein is low, etc. This is accomplished using a plurality of data bits preprogrammed into each bottle cap which are serialized using a shift register. The serialized data gates the output of an LF oscillator. A separator HF signal transmitted from the vicinity of the bottlecap is mixed in a nonlinear device with the gated LF oscillator output and radiated to a remote receiver and data processing device.

At least one control zone is set up within the surveillance area by two frequency modulated (FM) generators. The first FM generator establishes a second field in the control zone. The second FM generator establishes a third field only at a control zone margin, thereby defining the limits of the control zone. Presence within the control zone of a transponder cause reradiation of a signal comprised of the high frequency and FM signal, which provides an output signal. Additional control zones may be set up within the surveillance area by the addition of further FM generators.

For use with an electronic antishoplifting surveillance system, a reusable, low cost telltale tag intended to be attached to merchandise such as garments includes a passive electronic circuit or other stimulus and it can be locked on the merchandise so it can only be removed with a key held by authorized personnel. The passive electronic circuit serves to activate the surveillance system.

A high frequency generator projects an electronic wave into a control zone under surveillance to establish a first field. A frequency modulated (FM) generator is used for establishing a second field throughout the zone. A third field of the same FM carrier frequency, but with a different modulation, is established only at extreme ends of the control zone to define the limits of the control zone. Presence only within the control zone of a transponder causes the reradiation of a signal comprised of the FM signal and the high frequency signal, which in turn activates an alarm circuit.
