An axial seal assembly is for sealing against a radial engagement surface of an outer member or an inner member disposed within a bore of the outer member. The seal assembly includes an annular case coupled with the outer member or disposed about the inner member and an annular elastomeric seal body. The seal body includes an inner portion attached to the case and an outer portion extending axially and radially from the inner portion so as to be positionable generally parallel to the radial engagement surface. The outer portion has a contact section extending generally axially from a remainder of the outer portion and being sealingly engageable with the radial engagement surface, the seal body outer portion being bendable about the seal body inner portion such that the seal body outer portion remains parallel to the engagement surface during axial displacement between the annular case and the engagement surface.

Axial seal assembly with hinged lip

A seal assembly includes an annular rigid support member having a centerline and including an axial portion coupleable with the outer member and a radial portion extending inwardly from the axial portion. The radial portion has an outer end formed with the axial portion and an inner end defining a central opening disposeable around the shaft and being formed asymmetrical about the centerline and/or having a varying radial distance from the centerline. An annular sealing member has an outer portion attached to the support member and an inner portion with a first end providing a sealing lip, the sealing lip sealingly engageable with a running surface about a shaft to define a sealing interface, and a second end attached to the inner end of the support member radial portion. As such, contact pressure of the sealing lip against the running surface varies about a circular perimeter of the sealing interface.

Seal assembly with a case for inducing pumping

A seal includes an annular seal body formed of an elastomeric material and has opposing first and second circumferential surfaces and a sealing projection extending radially from the first circumferential surface. The projection has a frustoconical primary sealing surface with first and second axial ends and an axial length between the first and second ends. The projection is sealingly engageable with the inner surface of the outer member when the seal body is coupled with the inner member, such that substantially the entire axial length of the primary sealing surface is disposed against the inner surface of the outer member. Alternatively, the projection is sealingly engageable with the outer surface of the inner member when the seal body is coupled with the outer member, such that substantially the entire axial length of the primary sealing surface is disposed against the outer surface of the inner member.

Seal having a lip optimized for low temperature applications

A seal assembly for sealing an annular space between a shaft and a housing includes an annular case coupleable with the housing or the shaft and an annular seal member having a sealing surface centered about a centerline. In certain constructions, a coupler is configured to connect the seal member with the case or to connect the case with the housing such that the seal member is positioned with the sealing surface centerline intersecting or skew with respect to a central axis when the seal assembly is installed about the shaft. In other constructions, the seal member has an angled end providing the angled sealing surface. Thereby, the centerline of the sealing surface defines an angle to the central axis having a value of at least one degree, and the sealing surface engages the shaft outer surface to define an elliptical sealing interface extending circumferentially about the central axis.

Angled radial lip seal assembly

A clutch thrust bearing device having a ball bearing with a fixed inner ring, a rotatable outer ring, and at least one series of balls located in a raceway chamber disposed between the rings. The device also provides a piston having a substantially radial portion, the fixed inner ring being in axial abutment against the substantially radial portion. The piston further provides an axial portion arranged in a bore of the fixed inner ring of the ball bearing, the axial portion being provided with at least one outwards radial projection that extends between the fixed inner ring and the rotatable outer ring.

A piston bearing unit having an actuating piston which has a receiving region. The actuating piston is designed to actuate an element by way of a linear movement. The piston bearing unit also comprises a bearing having a first raceway and a second raceway, wherein the bearing is designed for mounting the actuating piston rotatably with respect to the element. The first raceway and the second raceway are at least partially accommodated in the receiving region.

An annular seal for a low friction bonded piston seal is provided. The annular seal having a central axis and including an annular seal body symmetrically positioned about the central axis. The annular seal is integrally molded to the body and provides a lower seal lip body, and a top seal lip. The top seal lip including a first radial lip thickness Tand a second radial lip thickness T. A ratio between second radial lip thickness Tto first radial lip thickness Tis less than 1.00. The annular seal includes a radial lip height H, and a radial lip overall pressure received thickness T. A ratio of radial lip height H to second radial lip thickness Tis greater than or equal to 0.65. The radial lip overall pressure received thickness Tis less than or equal to 0.8 mm. The first radial lip thickness Tis less than or equal to 0.7 mm.

Sealing lip for a low friction bonded piston seal

A seal assembly includes an annular body coupled with an inner member or an outer member and has inner and outer circumferential surfaces and first and second annular sealing portions spaced along a centerline. The two sealing portions either extend radially outwardly from the outer surface and have an outside diameter, with the first portion diameter being greater than the second portion diameter, or extend radially inwardly from the body inner surface and have an inside diameter, with the first portion diameter being lesser than the second portion diameter. The seal body is radially deflectable such that the first sealing portion is engaged with one of the outer and inner members, and the second sealing portion is spaced from the member, when the body is exposed to pressure lesser than a predetermined value and both sealing portions are engaged with the member at pressures above the value.
