An acoustical panel formed from a fibrous, open-celled material comprised of up to about 50% by weight fibers, between about 3% and about 10% by weight binder, between about 20% and about 75% by weight filler and about 0.01% to about 2.0% by weight surfactant. Additionally, voids are formed within the panel having an average distribution size diameter of about 50 &mgr;m to about 250 &mgr;m. The acoustic panel achieves very high sound absorption properties without the need for additional surface perforations, while maintaining a very high surface hardness.

A sports practicing aid and its method of use which includes graphic indicia in the form of a diagrammatic depiction of a typical golfing hole to be used at a driving range or other practice area which is employed by its user for recording thereon the user's shot pattern established during the course of making various actual practice shots. The aid further includes directions for its use and a system for shot statistical tabulation configured to allow the user to summarize the user's performance in terms of shot quality, in such a manner as to allow the golfer to identify and correct errors in his golf game (swing, grip, etc.). In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, practice materials are provided in consisting of a multitude of golf hole diagrams and attendant statistical tabulations. Basic golfing tips may also be included. While the preferred embodiment of the invention contemplates the present system in the form of a booklet, an alternative embodiment of the present invention contemplates the utilization of a computer or personal data assistant (PDA) having a screen, which computer of PDA is programmed with a diagrammatical layout of a practice area, upon which the user may record the user's shot pattern during practice sessions. The alternative embodiment of the present invention further contemplates a menu function wherein the user may consult an instructional database regarding golfing technique, historical data on past performance, transmittal functions, and programming functions including statistical manipulation of the shot data entered therein by the user for feedback, comparision, and historical use.

A pile fabric is treated overall with a solution containing a solvent for the fiber comprising the pile fabric. The solvent concentration of the solution is of a low enough level to produce little or no shrinkage by itself upon subsequent application of heat. Portions of the fabric before heating are treated with a solution to increase the solvent concentration on the pile fabric to a point where the solvent will have a shrinking effect on the fabric. The subsequently heated product then has an embossed effect.

The method and product disclosed herein result in a needle-bonded fabric having a tufted fabric visual. This is accomplished by needling an unconsolidated web consisting of layers of two or more different colored fibers with a needle board having a reduced needle density and wherein the needles are arranged in the needle board in a predetermined pattern. The multi-layer web is processed through a fiber locker containing this reduced needle density board at a higher advance rate per stroke than normal production methods so that the space between the needle punches is greatly increased. The web is transported through the fiber locker in a continuous manner and produces the claimed product. One of the layers of the web is a blend of fibers of widely different fiber deniers and color.
