A tool assembly for extracting a liner from a prosthesis comprising an impactor and a faceplate. The impactor can be configured to receive and transmit a force. The faceplate can be configured to deliver the force from the impactor to the prosthesis to separate the liner from a shell of the prosthesis.

An orthopedic implant can comprise a structural body, a plug and a frangible connection. The structural body can comprise a first surface, a second surface opposing the first surface, and a through-bore extending from the first surface to the second surface. The through-bore can have a bore surface. The structural body can be formed of a porous material. The plug can be disposed in the through-bore. The frangible connection can link the bore surface and the plug. A method of manufacturing an orthopedic implant can comprise producing a porous structural body having a port, producing a plug for positioning in the port, and producing a plurality of frangible crosspieces within the port to connect the plug to the structural body.

A trial system for determining a suitable proximal body implant for hip replacement surgery comprises a separator instrument, a trial body attachable to a distal stem, and an insert. The insert is positioned within the trial body to receive the separator instrument. As the separator instrument is rotated about its axis, a ramp element of the insert guides a pin of the separator instrument, so as to separate the trial body from the distal stem. Additional apparatus, methods, and systems are disclosed.

Modular proximal body trial

Illustrative methods and systems for customizing a pre-manufactured acetabular shell to a specific patient are described herein. An illustrative method can include positioning a provisional shell at an acetabulum of the patient, the provisional shell having a plurality of selectable openings. The method further including marking, based on the assessing of the bone, a patient-matched hole location on a provisional liner that corresponds to one of the plurality of selectable openings in the provisional shell. With the provisional liner marked, the method can further include removing the provisional liner from the provisional shell and positioning the provisional liner in the pre-manufactured acetabular shell that is to be implanted in the patient. Using the provisional liner as a guide, the method can include forming a hole in the acetabular shell corresponding to the marked patient-matched hole location on the provisional liner.

Methods and systems for patient-specific acetabular implants

A method of anatomically positioning screw holes in an acetabular implant that can be used in surgery, such as a total hip arthroplasty. In some examples the method can be used to position holes in a shell of the implant. The method can include, for example, obtaining anatomic data including data defining an arch of bone behind an acetabulum of the living being, the arch of bone extending from a superior anterior portion to an inferior posterior portion of the acetabulum. The method can further include positioning a first series of holes along a first arched line within the acetabular shell, the first arched line determined based on the anatomic data for the arch of bone proximate the acetabulum of the living being.

Prosthesis and methods including anatomically positioned holes

Templating software can determine and visually depict the location and size of cuts in a trochanteric osteotomy, including an extended trochanteric osteotomy. The software can also calculate the size and area of fixation for a newly implanted prosthesis, based upon which the new prosthesis that will be implanted in a particular patient can be selected. Additionally, an adjustable cut guide can stabilize and guide the cuts during the procedure.

Orthopedic device holder systems including a quick connect between an orthopedic device holder and an orthopedic tool are disclosed. The orthopedic device holder can include a shaft having a shaft connection end including at least three shaft engaging surfaces. The orthopedic tool can have a tool connection end including at least three tool engaging surfaces configured to couple with the three shaft engaging surfaces of the orthopedic device holder.

An adjustable reaming device can include a proximal reamer and a positionable element. The positionable element removably attaches to the proximal reamer at one of a plurality of discrete longitudinal locations along the proximal reamer. A distal end of the positionable element forms a stop, which can contact a proximal end of a distal reamer and thereby limit distal motion of the proximal reamer with respect to the distal reamer. When the distal reamer is in contact with the positionable element, the distal reamer and proximal reamer are longitudinally offset by a one of a plurality of specified offsets. In some examples, the specified offsets correspond to a plurality of specified, discrete lengths for which implantable femoral stems are available.

Hip replacement surgery (hip arthroplasty) includes implantation of a distal stem into a femur of a patient, and implantation of a proximal body to connect to the distal stem. A practitioner uses a 'trial' or 'provisional' to determine a suitable size and configuration for the implantable proximal body, then selects a suitable proximal body from a set of differently sized and shaped proximal bodies. The trial adjusts discretely, as opposed to continuously, and has discrete settings that correspond to the sizes and configurations available in the set of implantable proximal bodies. In some examples, the trials are provided as a kit of parts, where each part in the kit is adjustable for height (i.e., the length of the femur). The parts in the kit can have different, fixed, values for offset (i.e., the lateral distance of the femur to the center of the femoral head in the acetabulum).

An orthopedic implant inserter is provided with removable jaws. The jaws are connected to handles of the inserter by retainers. Each retainer includes a shaft and a latch. The shaft is configured to be received within mounting bores of a jaw and the associated handle. The latch is connected to the shaft and movable between a release configuration and a retaining configuration. In the release configuration, the shaft is removable from the mounting bores and the jaw is thereby removable from the associated handle. In the retaining configuration, the shaft is secured within the mounting bores and the jaw is thereby secured to the associated handle.

An apparatus can include an acetabular cup, and a connection member that can be mounted to the acetabular cup such as near a rim edge of the acetabular cup. The connection member can include an attachment section that can be configured to receive an attachment from an inserter. The attachment section can be configured to permit the inserter to be attached to the connection member in two or more different orientations relative to the connection member.
