Compositions including a combination of (meth)acryloyl-terminated monomers and oligomers prepared by co-reacting reactants having active hydrogen groups with an acrylating agent are disclosed. Polymerizates formed using the combinations of (meth)acryloyl-terminated monomers and oligomers exhibit a high hardness, excellent thermomechanical properties, and a high refractive index. The compositions can be used to fabricate optical components.

High refractive index compositions and uses thereof

The present invention is directed to a polymerizable composition comprising (A) a reaction product of: (a) diethyleneglycol bischloroformate, ethyleneglycol bischloroformate, or combinations thereof; (b) allyl alcohol; (c) optionally, a cyclic polyol selected from the group consisting of a cycloaliphatic polyol having at least one secondary hydroxyl group, a heterocyclic polyol having primary and/or secondary hydroxyl groups, and mixtures thereof; and (d) optionally, at least one linear or branched aliphatic polyol having two to six hydroxyl groups; and (B) an organic peroxide comprising at least three peroxide groups. A polymerizate and/or an optical article comprising the polymerizable compositions of the invention are also provided.

Polymerizable composition for optical articles and optical articles made therefrom

A polymerizable composition includes the reaction product of an isohexide bischloroformate, at least one polyol, allyl alcohol, and, optionally, at least one polychloroformate. An exemplary polymerizable composition includes (a) the transesterification reaction product of an isohexide, diallyl carbonate, and at least one polyol; and (b) organic peroxide. A polymerizate including the polymerizable composition and an optical article including the polymerizable composition are also provided.

Polymerizable composition for optical articles

An exemplary polymerizable thermosetting composition includes the reaction product of (a) allyl alcohol; (b) a cyclic polyol selected from the group consisting of a cycloaliphatic polyol having at least one secondary hydroxyl group, a heterocyclic polyol having primary and/or secondary hydroxyl groups, and mixtures thereof; (c) ethyleneglycol bischloroformate; and (d) optionally, at least one linear or branched aliphatic polyol having two to six hydroxyl groups. The allyl alcohol (a) is present in an amount of 0.4 to 1.99 equivalents of OH to 1 equivalent chloroformate, and the cyclic polyol (b) is present in an amount of 0.01 to 0.6 equivalents of OH to 1 equivalent of chloroformate. A reaction product, a polymerizate including the polymerizable thermosetting composition, and an optical article including the polymerizable thermosetting composition are also provided.

A polymerizable composition includes at least one first monomer and at least one second monomer, wherein the at least one first monomer includes an isohexide bis(allyl carbonate) monomer, and wherein the at least one second monomer includes one or more ethylenic unsaturations. Provided is a polymerizable composition including: (a) a polymerizable component; and (b) a pigment component the pigment component includes: (i) an ionic or amphoteric dispersant material; and (ii) pigment nanoparticles uniformly dispersed in the dispersant material (i). The nanoparticles have a particle size of up to 500 nanometers. The present invention is also directed to polymerizates prepared from the polymerizable organic composition, shaped articles prepared from the polymerizable compositions, and photochromic articles that may be prepared from the polymerizable organic composition of the present invention.

Optical resin composition

The present invention is directed to a novel method of preparing a polymerizate, which includes the step of polymerizing a two-component composition, which includes: a first component containing at least one polycyanate reactant having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations thereof, the polycyanate reactant being the reaction product of: a polythiol monomer having at least two thiol groups; and a polycyanate monomer having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations thereof; and a second component containing at least one polyamine reactant having at least two functional groups selected from primary amine, secondary amine and combinations thereof. The molar equivalent ratio of (NCO+NCS) groups from the first component to (&#x2014;NH+&#x2014;NH&#x2014;) groups from the second component is from 0.5 to 100. The present invention is further directed to photochromic articles that may be prepared from the polymerizates of the present invention.

Method of preparing an optical polymerizate

Described is a polymerizable organic composition comprising: (a) a radically polymerizable gel-free prepolymer of (i) at least one first polymerizable monomer having at least two radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups, e.g., divinyl benzene, and (ii) at least one first polythiol monomer having at least two thiol groups, e.g., thioglycerol bis(mercaptoacetate); and (b) at least one second polymerizable monomer having at least two radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups, e.g., divinyl benzene and/or methacrylic anhydride, the first and second radically polymerizable monomers each being substantially free of norbornene groups. The molar equivalent ratio of ethylenically unsaturated groups of (a)(i) to the thiol groups of (a)(ii) is no greater than 1:1. The described polymerizable composition has reduced shrinkage, and a polymerizate prepared therefrom has a refractive index of at least 1.57 and an Abbe number of at least 33.

Optical resin composition comprising thiol-ene prepolymer

Describes a polymerizable composition of (a) a first allyl functional monomer, which is selected such that a substantially completely cured polymerizate of the first allyl functional monomer has a 15 second Barcol 934 hardness of at least 40, and (b) a second allyl functional monomer selected from polyether diol bis(allyl carbonate), polylactone diol bis(allyl carbonate) and mixtures thereof. A polymerizate of the polymerizable composition has a refractive index of at least 1.57 and an Abbe number of at least 33.
