Offset base storage rack assembly

A storage rack system includes a base detachably secured from the storage rack wherein the materials of construction for the base are a heavier gauge material than that of the storage rack for improved weight carrying capability and for resistance to abuse while minimizing the cost of the rack assembly. The base has offset front legs closest to the aisle to protect the front legs from accidentally being hit by a forklift truck.

Method of converting storage rack assembly

A storage rack column protector ( ) is designed to protect a column ( ) from damage from a straddle or outrigger type fork truck. If one of the outrigger forks is aimed at and heading toward the protected column ( ), a ramp ( ) on the protector raises the offending outrigger fork and thus also the wheel of the fork truck. Should the fork truck continue advancing, a stop ( ) will bring the outrigger fork and the fork truck to a complete stop before it makes impact with the column.

A load lock for a rack includes a mounting clip mounted in a recess of the mounting bracket, which makes the lock easy to install and impossible to remove without dismantling the rack. The load lock also includes a locking pin having an enlarged head, and the bracket includes a recess for receiving the enlarged head, so the locking pin can be retracted to install and remove the beam, but the recess provides a stop to prevent the lock from being retracted far enough to damage the lock.

A rack is provided with shelves that are well-secured. The corners of each shelf are connected by a hook on one member dropped vertically down into a slot of the other member, and, once the members are properly aligned with the hook and slot, they are secured with a bolt. Beams, such as roller beams, guide beams, and support beams are connected to the frame members by means of upwardly-projecting trees on the frame members, which include arms that fit into holes in the vertical legs of the beams. Clips may be used after the beams are installed on the frame members to prevent the vertical legs of the beams from shifting, thereby further securing the beams to the shelf.
