There is provided a flexible, thin, chemiluminescent device comprised of a back sheet having sealed thereto at its edges a windowed front sheet, separation means to divide the internal cavity into a larger and a smaller compartment, the larger compartment containing a contents-releasable receptacle for one part of a two-part chemiluminescent composition and an absorbent material in the larger compartment containing the second part of the composition external to the receptacle, the smaller compartment forming an exit passageway for gases, being in open communication with the larger compartment at its upstream end, and open to the atmosphere through a vent at its downstream end, whereby gases generated during storage and use can exit harmlessly without distorting or inflating the device. The smaller compartment may contain a gas porous component which acts to separate residual liquid from escaping gas thereby preventing unwanted liquid leakage from the chemiluminescent device.

A divider clamp assembly for use in compressing the opposed sidewalls of a tubular, flexible-walled container against one another, the assembly comprising a first member being substantially U-shaped in cross-section and a second member of substantially round cross-section, the interior surface of the first member conforming in shape with the exterior shape of said second member, the U-shaped member preferably having integral, sharp edged ribs extending lengthwise on its inner surface and having oval-shaped rings on each of its ends positioned such that the rings hold the second member within each interior thereof, the second member being enlarged on both ends such that it may not be separated from the first member but may be compressed into the interior of the first member to form a tight fit therewith.

A simulation decoy whose position and structural purport are determinable by infrared detection means is disclosed, which comprises a multi-dimensional display body containing a sufficient quantity of combustible carbon to provide a controlled burning for a predetermined length of time, and means to initiate ignition of said carbon to produce sustained burning of said multi-dimensional display body, to activate such simulation decoy for infrared detection. The simulation decoy of this invention may employ metal coated fibers with the combustible carbon to provide radar-detection capability and may be utilized to mimic motive structures such as land-based vehicles, marine vehicles, or aircraft, as a two-dimensional or three-dimensional display, providing an infrared and radar signature useful as a defensive countermeasure in warfare or other battlefield conditions. In one embodiment, the multi-dimensional display body is provided as an inflatable spherical body which can be discharged from an aircraft at high altitudes and employed to provide a spherical radar and infrared signature, to provide a defense countermeasure against 'smart' heat-seeking, surface-to-air and air-to-air guided missiles.

A process for the production of a reinforced metal plate comprising forming a slurry of metal coated carbon fibers, binder fibers and metal powder, laying down a mat from said slurry, drying the resultant mat and then sintering said, is disclosed. An electrochromic display matrix and method for making the same are disclosed wherein relatively small spacing distances between the individual electrochromic elements can be obtained. The method comprises exposing and developing photoresist through a pattern which defines strips and relatively narrow spacing distances. Solvent-permeable ion-conductive material and then solvent-permeable conductive material are applied over the photoresist. Photoresist solvent-remover is then applied, which releases the underlying photoresist and lifts off the ion-conductive material and conductive material to establish isolated regions of ion-conductive material and conductive material. Insulating paint is then applied in order to maintain isolation between the strips. The completed device, when addressed by a multiplexing method, is substantially free of any cross talk effects. High resolution display matrices are obtainable.

In electrochromic devices having a layer of electrochromic material, e.g. tungsten oxide, in contact with a polymeric electrolyte layer, the stability and speed of the device are improved by using a copolymer of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid and vinyl sulfonic acid as the polymeric electrolyte.
