An optical system for light distribution. The optical system includes at least a reflective surface, at least two refracting surfaces, at least one inner lens and an outer lens. The optical system provides high efficiency collection and distribution of light.

Optical system

A radiation distribution system designed to produce a batwing distribution. The system may be used with radiative sources emitting in the visible spectrum or in other spectra. The system comprises a specially shaped lens disposed over a radiative source, such as an LED, for example. The lens and source are arranged between two reflector bodies, both of which have an elongated reflective surface that faces the source. The reflector bodies each have two different reflective surfaces that face outward and away from each other. The lens and both reflective surfaces work in concert to redirect a portion of the emitted radiation to create the desired batwing distribution. Several sources may be arranged linearly between a single pair of reflector bodies on a common surface to create a linear array of sources. Likewise, multiple linear arrays may be combined to form a two-dimensional array. In the two-dimensional configuration, linear arrays of sources are disposed on both sides of a reflector body, so that both of the reflective surfaces are utilized.

Optical system for batwing distribution

An LED package includes a LED structure that outputs light in a pattern about an axis and an optical coupling device with a central axis. The coupling device is positioned relative to the LED structure and accepts light from the LED. The coupling device includes a first dielectric interface surface that is substantially cylindrical with respect to the central axis, and a reflecting surface. The first dielectric interface surface accepts a first portion of light from the LED structure and directs it toward the reflecting surface. The reflecting surface accepts the light from the first dielectric interface surface and directs it toward the first dielectric interface surface in a direction substantially perpendicular to the central axis.

Side-emitting optical coupling device

An LED light source using back-reflecting collection optics with a supporting structure and heat sink to block only a small amount of light. A reflector has a front and back side with an LED positioned on the front side of the reflector. A heat conducting body is positioned at least partially between the reflector and the LED. The heat conducting body provides a pathway for heat to flow from the LED toward the back side of the reflector.

Back-reflecting LED light source

A high brightness LED phosphor coupling device. A semiconductor light source is encapsulated by a medium of first index of refraction, a layer of phosphor surrounded by a second medium of second index of refraction of optical index less than the first index and a light coupler for redirecting most of the light from the light source to an area of the phosphor about equal to the area of the light source multiplied by the square of the ratio of the first to the second index of refraction.

High-brightness LED-phosphor coupling

A nonimaging optical system for processing a first and second light distribution. The nonimaging optical system includes at least two refractive surfaces, at least one reflective surface nearer to the first light distribution along at least one ray path than the nearer of the two refracting surfaces and the reflective surface and the refractive surfaces cooperating to redirect light edge rays of the first light distribution into the neighborhood of the edge of the second light distribution with a single reflection from the reflecting surface.

Compact non-imaging light collector

In a copier having stored in memory, a matrix of sets, with each set having at least two different values corresponding to: (i) a specific voltage level Vo applied onto a photoconductor by the primary charger; and (ii) a specific copier exposure level Eo; for a 'manufacturing standard' copier, that cause any copier which is identical to such standard copier to have a desired Din/Dout response curve, apparatus is provided which in response to variations from the manufacturing standard copier computes correction values and adjusts the values from the matrix of sets. The apparatus includes logic and control which responds to the adjusted set values to cause the copier to produce copies in accordance with the desired Din/Dout response curve.
