A crankshaft having at least two eccentric members of different diameter and a method of assembling a reciprocating compressor using a crankshaft having at least two eccentric members of different diameter are provided. A crankshaft having two eccentric members of different diameter is provided for more easily assembling a four-cylinder reciprocating compressor. The eccentric member having a smaller diameter is more easily inserted through apertures of connecting rods having a larger diameter than the eccentric member.

A compressor for providing automatic capacity modulation is disclosed. The compressor comprises a compression chamber, a compressing member, a reexpansion area, a flow passage, a valve member, and a biasing member. The flow passage is in fluid communication with the compression chamber and the reexpansion area. In one position, the valve member permits flow through the flow passage and in a second position it prevents flow. The valve member is subjected to a first operating condition of fluid on one side and a second operating condition of the fluid on the other side. The biasing member exerts a biasing force on the valve member. When the first operating condition reaches a predetermined point relative to the second operating condition, the valve member moves and effects a change in the capacity of the compressor.

Compressors for providing automatic capacity modulation and heat exchanging system including the same

A gas compressor having a block with two opposed cylinder banks each having at least one cylinder formed therein, each bank having an upper end, a lower end, an inner wall, an outer wall, and opposite side wall, a floor interconnecting the cylinder banks at their lower ends, and a roof interconnecting the cylinder banks at their upper ends, a crankcase formed by the inner walls, roof and floor, the crankcase having a longitudinal axis extending through the roof and floor, first bearing positioned on the floor and aligned with the longitudinal axis for rotatably mounting one end of a crankshaft, an aperture through the roof, a second bearing positioned on the roof and aligned with the longitudinal axis for rotatably mounting the other end of the crankshaft through the aperture, a piston mounted in each cylinder and each having a connecting rod mounted on the crankshaft, the adjacent edge portions of the inner wall, the side walls, the floor and the roof defining an access portal to the crankshaft and to the connecting rods through each side of the block, a drive for the crankshaft for rotating the same and reciprocating the pistons in their cylinders, and suction and discharge valving for admitting the gas to and discharging the gas from the cylinders.

Gas compressor construction and assembly

A single or multi-cylinder compressor unit being cylinder wall ported and having suction inlet means to compression chamber means through the wall and top of piston means, wherein suction valve means comprises preferably a light-weight plastic disc means mounted in an essentially free-floating manner in the piston means top, the discharge valving cooperatively comprises discharge porting plate means and discharge valve disc means reciprocably mounted on bearing means in the compressor head for enhanced operating accuracy and seat longevity and adapted to seal discharge port aperture means in the plate means on the suction stroke, and wherein the piston means top, the compression side of the suction valve disc means, the compression side of the porting plate means, and the compression side of the discharge valve disc means all being adapted to lie substantially in the same plane at the apex of the compression stroke to essentially eliminate gas reexpansion.

A train monitoring system for detecting hot boxes, dragging equipment and the like at the rail site, determining the location on the train of a monitored defect and annunciating the defect and location from a digital automated voice generator to the train crew as well as along a telephone line to a central location. Recording of the defect with time and date of same is provided. The system also has provision for self check via an external simulated train.
