Novel compositions of matter comprise polymeric materials containing, as a filler therefor, a semiconducting pyropolymeric inorganic refractory oxide material, said compositions being useful in situations which require items such as electrically conductive sheets which possess a given electrical resistance.

Novel compositions of matter

An ink supply system for an ink jet, or an array of ink jets, is disclosed in which an on-off valve is interposed in the conduit between the ink reservoir and the droplet forming nozzle, and a second source of ink under pressure is connected through a normally closed valve to the conduit between the nozzle and the on-off valve. To initially prime the nozzle, the on-off valve is closed, a vacuum pulled on the nozzle, and the valve opened to fill the conduit and nozzle. To reprime or clear obstructions such as dirt particles, the on-off valve is closed and the normally closed valve briefly opened to send a pulse of ink to and through the nozzle. With both valves closed during shipping or storage, the likelihood or ink being dislodged from the nozzle or conduit so as to deprime the nozzle is minimized.

Ink jet ink supply system

A method of making conductive material for a conducting device. The material is formed by reacting an organic pyrolyzable substance in the presence of a refractory oxide having a surface area of from about 1 to about 500 square meters per gram in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature of at least 400.degree. C.

Method of forming a conducting material for a conducting device

Electrical resistor inks comprising a mixture of at least one semi-conducting pyropolymeric inorganic refractory oxide material and a vehicle consisting of a binder such as a synthetic resin or a varnish, and a suitable solvent or oil, etc., are useful in forming resistors in electrical circuits, especially on printed circuit boards and on the ceramic substrates used for thick film circuits. In addition, the ink may contain other components such as metal powders, anti-skinning agents, drying agents, colored pigments, waxes, etc.

Electrical resistor inks

Improved forms of electric resistance elements or resistors may be made from semiconducting organic-refractory oxide fibers, as for example drawn alumina fibers which have been subjected to contact with a pyrolyzable organic substance at a temperature above about 400.degree. C. A few, or a large number of the semiconductive fibers, can be used in a group or bundle form to provide a desired resistance for a particular resistor. A preferred form of resistance element will cover the fibers in a quartz tube or other suitable encapsulating material to preclude moisture problems.

Precision type resistor

Electrical resistor inks comprising a mixture of a semi-conducting pyropolymeric inorganic material and a transition metal oxide along with a vehicle consisting of a binder such as a synthetic resin or a varnish and a suitable solvent or oil, etc. are useful in forming resistors in electrical circuits, the resistor ink possessing a temperature coefficient of resistance of less than about 500 ppm/.degree. C.
