An EGR-mixer system may include an exhaust gas recirculation valve and a venturi mixer. The venturi mixer may be constructed and arranged to facilitate condensation of water out of exhaust gas and/or intake air entering the EGR-mixer system after which the condensate may be collected and the exhaust gas and/or intake air may flow through the EGR-mixer system.

Condensing EGR-mixer system

A number of variations may include an EGR-mixer system that may include an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve and a venturi mixer. The venturi mixer may be constructed and arranged to facilitate condensation of water out of exhaust gas and/or intake air entering the EGR-mixer system.

According to one implementation of an engine system, a power device is selectively actuated to provide energy to a storage device. Energy from the storage device is selectively provided to a boost assist device to supplement the normal energy supply to a boost device and enable an increased power output of the engine in at least certain engine or vehicle operating conditions. In one form, the power device may be a source of electrical energy and the storage device is capable of storing an electrical charge. In another form, the power device is a fluid pump and the storage device is capable of storing pressurized fluid. Various methods may be employed to control operation of the power device and energy storage in the storage device.

Boost assist system

An engine () assembly comprising an engine (), at least one exhaust gas recirculation valve, () at least one throttle valve, and an actuator () operably connected to the EGR valve () and the throttle valve (). The actuator () can be operably connected to any predetermined combination of a predetermined number of EGR valves () and a predetermined number of throttle valves (). The actuator () can be a mechanical actuator, a pneumatic actuator, a hydraulic actuator, or an electrical actuator.

Two component low pressure EGR module

An engine assembly () comprising an engine, a plurality of coolers, a plurality of bypasses, and at least one actuator (). The engine has an exhaust manifold and an intake manifold. The gaseous fluid exiting the exhaust manifold is recirculated to the intake manifold. The exhaust gas passes through either an air cooler or a bypass. At least one actuator is operably connected to the plurality of bypasses. The bypasses have a valve () which is actuated to control the flow of the gaseous fluid through the bypass as both the bypass and the cooler. Therefore, when a single actuator is used to control the valves in both bypasses, the valves in the bypasses have the same relationship with the inlets so that a single actuator movement will control both valves in the same manner.

Integrated charge air and EGR valve

The present invention is an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve for an engine having an exhaust gas recirculation cooler operable for receiving exhaust gas from an exhaust, and delivering the exhaust gas to an intake. The present invention also includes an exhaust gas recirculation bypass passage operable for receiving exhaust gas from an exhaust, bypassing the exhaust gas recirculation cooler, and delivering the exhaust gas to an intake, as well as a single valve operably associated with the exhaust gas recirculation cooler and the exhaust gas recirculation bypass passage. The single valve is selectively operable for opening or closing flow from the exhaust to the exhaust gas recirculation cooler, the exhaust gas recirculation bypass passage, or both, the single valve also operable for metering flow therebetween.

Combined EGR valve and cooler by-pass

Mechanical systems having anti-stick mediums applied thereto are provided. In one aspect, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve systems having anti-stick mediums applied thereto are also provided. The anti-stick medium can be applied to any contacting surface, such as but not limited to the valve surface and/or the valve seat surface. The anti-stick medium is intended to prevent the valve surface and the valve seat surface sticking or bonding together, especially with respect to the operation of cooled or cold side EGR systems. If any materials should stick to the anti-stick medium, a portion of the anti-stick medium will break away from the surface, allowing the surface and/or component to function normally. The anti-stick medium can include, without limitation, boron nitride coatings, boron nitride aerosols, boron nitride greases, thin dense chrome platings, perfluoroalkoxy, and combinations thereof.

Exhaust gas recirculation valve

A regenerative or toric pump adds energy to a fluid using an impeller having an axis of rotation and axially spaced, radially extending first and second surfaces. A casing encloses the impeller and has a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet separated by a stripper. The casing has axially spaced, radially extending first and second sidewalls facing the first and second surfaces of the impeller respectively. Axially and radially extending blades or vanes are formed on an outer radial periphery of the impeller for driving fluid from the inlet toward the outlet as the impeller rotates about the axis of rotation. A fixed surface is formed in at least one sidewall of the casing for directing fluid back toward the impeller. Improved operating characteristics and extended range are accomplished through modification to the vane configuration of the impeller and/or by modification of the side channel configuration of the pump chamber in an asymmetrical fashion. The vanes can be modified to include a radially inward based portion extending in a generally trailing direction with respect to rotation of the impeller and a radially outward tip portion extending in a generally leading direction. The blades may also include a chamfered surface on the trailing edge of the base portion. The impeller chamber can be modified separately by expanding a side channel in the casing, or by insertion of a spacer between the side channel and the remaining portion of the casing defining the impeller chamber.
