A spring-loaded clip for removably attaching a catheter hub to the skin of a patient. The clip includes first and second needle members pivotably connected on a common axis and closable with their respective arcuate needle elements interlocked within the skin of a patient. A bias spring urges the first and second needle elements into a preferred position, preferably the closed position. Each needle member includes a lever for use in opening and closing the clip and also includes a grasping element for capturing a catheter hub as the clip closes. Preferably, the needle elements are curved through about 120&#xb0;, are sharpened to a point at a first end, and are joined to a pivot element at the opposite end. No separate conventional suturing of a catheter hub to a patient is required.

An improved catheter system having a hub including a self-suturing mechanism comprising a circular needle rotatably slidable in a circular groove in the hub. The needle is sharpened to a point at an end and preferably is also formed into a tang for use as a handle. The hub is flattened on a side to be adjacent to the skin, defining a hub flat thus truncating the groove through, for example, 60&#xb0; thereof. After the catheter is positioned in the blood vessel, the flat is pressed against the skin. The circular needle is rotated through an angle such that the circular needle passes through a portion of the skin, thereby 'self-suturing' the hub to the skin of the patient. The hub is thus firmly attached to the patient, and no separate suturing is required. De-suturing of the catheter requires only reverse rotation of the circular needle.

Self-suturing catheter system

A system for wiping a windshield of a vehicle in a rectangular field, comprising a wiper arm, a wiper blade assembly operationally attached to the wiper arm, and means for rotating and translating the wiper arm to cause said wiper blade assembly to track in a linear path across the windshield. The system includes a three-gear train for moving a pivot point on the wiper arm along a circular path centered on a virtual pivot point. The system is especially suited for wiping low aspect ratio windshields.

Bubbles are eliminated from a liquid such as a photographic emulsion by passing the emulsion through a horizontal tubular container while pulling a vacuum on the container and subjecting the emulsion to ultrasonic vibrations from an ultrasonic transducer having a horn located in a well in the bottom of the container. Emulsion is pumped out of the container and delivered through a conduit to the point of use. The delivery circuit can include a secondary gas separation chamber which also has a transducer horn therein. Provision is made for selectively recycling part or all of the emulsion back into the well. The container can be operated either partly full or completely full of liquid. Provision is also made for cleaning the internal walls of the apparatus by injecting a swirling stream of liquid into the tubular container to flow through the container and downstream portions of the system.
