An optimized backup image of a virtual machine is generated. The virtual machine is associated with a virtual disk. The virtual disk includes one or more virtual volumes. Generating the optimized backup image includes excluding one or more invalid sectors of the virtual disk from the optimized backup image.

Optimized image archiving

A computer-implemented method may include identifying a request to restore an image to a target disk while a first operating system is running on the target disk and creating a file in a first file system of the first operating system. The method may also include mapping a position in the file to a location on the target disk to provide a map that associates the position in the file with the location on the target disk. The method may further include using the map to write at least a portion of the image to the target disk to provide a restored operating system on the target disk. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for restoring images

A computer-implemented method for restoring an image to an encrypted disk is described. An image to restore to the disk is identified. Information is read from one or more filesystems currently residing on the disk to identify one or more sectors on the disk that are reserved for a disk encryption driver. The image is restored to one or more non-reserved sectors on the disk. One or more filesystems are created on the disk that are associated with the restored image.

Systems and methods for restoring an image to a software encrypted disk or volume

Before booting from a main OS into a pre-OS, a pre-OS management component verifies that all critical drivers are present in the pre-OS. The pre-OS management component identifies the hardware devices present on the computer on which the pre-OS is to be booted, and determines which drivers are installed in the pre-OS. If any drivers for critical devices are missing, the pre-OS management component provides a detailed report so that that the user can locate the missing drivers and add them to the pre-OS. In another embodiment, the pre-OS management component automatically obtains and installs the missing drivers.

Critical pre-OS driver verification

Communicating via a network using a universal network driver interface is disclosed. It is determined whether a universal network device interface (UNDI) driver is installed. A UNDI driver is scanned for if it is determined that no UNDI driver is installed. In the event a UNDI driver is found, a PCI network device that is associated with the UNDI driver is scanned for. If a PCI network device associated with the UNDI driver is found, the UNDI driver is loaded and initialized for the PCI network device.
