A method of cooling a compressor, providing compressed working fluid, in a natural gas based combustion engine is provided. The method includes diverting at least a portion of natural gas from a fuel tank of the combustion engine. The method further includes routing the portion of natural gas towards the compressor. The method also includes providing one or more nozzles disposed at one or more strategic locations of the compressor. The method further includes injecting the portion of natural gas, via the one or more nozzles, inside the compressor. The method also includes allowing the portion of natural gas to diffuse with the compressed working fluid inside the compressor in an endothermic expansion process, to convectively cool the compressor.

Turbocharger having cooling arrangement for compressor and method thereof

A turbocharger is provided including a turbine housing having a gas inlet passage. A turbine wheel having a plurality of blades is arranged within the turbine housing. A nozzle ring is disposed around the turbine wheel and includes a plurality of vanes with flow channels being defined between the vanes that are in fluid communication the gas inlet passage and with the turbine wheel. A shroud is arranged in surrounding relation to at least a portion of the turbine wheel and in spaced relation from the turbine housing. The shroud is integrally formed with the nozzle ring such that the plurality of vanes extend away from the shroud.

Turbocharger turbine nozzle and containment structure

A turbocharger includes a turbine section, a compressor section and a bearing section. A turbine wheel and a compressor wheel are mounted on a shaft and the shaft is rotatably mounted in a bore of a housing. A lubrication system circulates lubricant through the bearing section. First and second spaced apart seals are positioned along the shaft. A recess is positioned between the first seal and the second seal to define an air buffer chamber. The air buffer chamber is provided with pressurized air to discourage lubricant leakage past the first seal.

A crossover for ducting exhaust produced by an engine. The crossover includes a front inside passage and rear outside passage. The front inside passage is configured to direct exhaust from one or more cylinders associated with a front of the engine to an inside volute of a turbocharger turbine. The rear outside passage is configured to direct exhaust from one or more cylinders associated with a rear of the engine to an outside volute of the turbocharger turbine. The inside volute is closer to the rear of the engine than the outside volute is.
