In general, arthroscopic medical implements and assemblies and methods of operating arthroscopic medical implements and assemblies are provided. Devices, systems, and methods are described herein in connection with accessing a surgical site using an arthroscopic medical implement. In an exemplary implementation, an optical sensor of the arthroscopic medical implement can gather and output image data, and an inertial sensor of the arthroscopic medical implement can gather and output orientation data. The orientation data can be used to modify the gathered optical image to maintain a display of the gathered optical image in a predetermined desired orientation before, during, and after any rotation of the arthroscopic medical implement. The arthroscopic medical implement can also include at least one sensor configured to gather and output pressure and/or temperature.

Arthroscopic medical implements and assemblies

Various arthroscopic shavers are provided that minimize contact between bodily fluid and the shaver hand piece. Arthroscopic shavers generally include a cutting assembly mated to a hand piece. In one embodiment, the shaver includes a hub that connects the cutting assembly with the hand piece and has an exit port configured to transport cut tissue and fluid from the device. In another embodiment, the shaver includes a hub configured to retrofit existing shaver hand pieces having interior lumens for removing cut tissue and fluid. The hub further includes an exit port that diverts fluid away from the hand piece.

Tissue shavers

A handle assembly for use in conjunction with a surgical cutting device is provided. The handle assembly can generally include two, detachable pieces or housings. The first housing can include electrical and mechanical components for driving a cutting assembly, such as a motor, while the second housing can include a fluid flow path that allows fluid to flow from the surgical site to a location outside of the cutting device. At least a portion of the fluid flow path can extend substantially adjacent to at least a portion of one or more components used to drive the cutting assembly to help manage the heat output of the components. The fluid flow path allows the fluid to exit the device without coming into contact with components like a motor, while also helping to cool the handle assembly. Systems and methods for cutting tissue are also provided.

An endovascular prosthesis of the present invention includes an expandable stent and a means for sealably attaching a tubular graft to the stent within the stent's lumen. The means of sealably attaching a graft includes membranes, foams, polymeric materials and combinations thereof. Additionally, the present invention includes methods of forming an endovascular prosthesis and methods of implanting an endovascular prosthesis within a vessel to provide sealable securement of a tubular graft within the stent's lumen.

A self-expanding endoluminal device comprising a tubular filamentary member having a hollow core for receiving a guidewire, the tubular member having a straightened configuration with the guidewire in the hollow core, a shape memory configuration without the guidewire in the hollow core, and an extension, optionally severable, accessible from outside of the body. The hollow core may be adapted to contain and elute or permanently contain a substance, which may be injected through the extension. A delivery system includes the guidewire, and a deployment method includes deployment with a proximal end of the extension accessible from outside of the body.

A variable length endovascular prosthesis to prevent endoleaks includes a substantially tubular first graft member having an interior surface, an exterior surface, and an open end, and a substantially tubular second graft member engaged coaxially within the first graft member, the second graft member having a proximal end. The prosthesis further includes a substantially tubular fluid-tight connecting member attached at one end to the first graft member and attached at another end to the second graft member, where the connecting member is axially compressible and expandable to facilitate engagement of the proximal end of the second graft member within the first graft member while maintaining a seal between the proximal end of the second graft member and the open end of the first graft member.

Tissue ablation probes, systems, and methods are provided for treating tissue (e.g., a tumor). The probe comprises an inner probe shaft, and an outer probe shaft disposed around the inner probe shaft. The outer probe shaft has a distal portion fixably mounted to the inner probe shaft, and a proximal portion rotatably mounted to the inner probe shaft. The probe further comprises a coiled ablation electrode disposed between the proximal portion and the distal portion. The electrode is configured for unwinding when the proximal portion rotates about the inner probe shaft in one direction, thereby placing the electrode in a radially expanded geometry, and configured for winding when the proximal portion rotates about the inner probe shaft in another opposite direction, thereby placing the electrode in a radially collapsed geometry.

The male component is deployed partially within the female component, and with the eversible extension eversed over the male component.

A method of making a non-porous tubular graft is disclosed. The method includes the step of securing a plurality of fastening elements extending through an outer layer of knitted, woven, or braided material along a length of the outer layer, wherein the fastening elements extend outwardly from the outer layer. The method further includes the steps of placing an inner layer of non-porous material within the outer layer such that an underside of each fastening element is positioned between the inner layer and the outer layer and laminating the outer layer to the inner layer to form the non-porous tubular graft.

The present invention provides an endoprosthesis comprising a radially distensible, tubular stent comprising opposed open ends and a stent wall structure having opposed exterior and luminal surfaces; and a continuous and seamless ePTFE tubular covering having a node and fibril structure securably disposed to at least one of the stent surfaces, the graft covering comprising at least two laminated layers, wherein the laminated layers include at least one region where the laminated layers are not securely bonded; and the at least one region has a different bending flexibility from the tubular graft covering.
