Reception of network load data is disclosed. For instance, the network load data can provide indication of a utilization level extant in a wireless cellular network. The systems and methods, as a function of the utilization level, determine a congestion metric that indicates a level of congestion determined to have been experienced by a communication packet using the wireless cellular network device. Further, the disclosed systems and methods schedules transmission of communication packets to an end user device via the wireless cellular network device, as a function of the determined congestion metric.

A method embodying the disclosure includes facilitating communications with mobile user equipment (UE) devices to form a collaborative group that uses a local wireless network. A UE receives video content from a content provider via a first network, presents the video content, and predicts a degradation of presentation quality for a portion of the video content. The UE sends requests to other UEs in the group for subportions of the video content, and receives the subportions via the local wireless network. The requesting UE aggregates the received subportions to obtain an alternate video portion for presentation and thus mitigate the predicted degradation of presentation quality. Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method including identifying, by a processing system including a processor, performance indicators for a flow on a communication network. The system determines a size criterion for the flow, and a flow shaping criterion based on the data type and including a threshold value of a performance indicator. If the size criterion is met, the system monitors the performance indicators and initiates a flow shaping procedure responsive to the flow shaping criterion being met. The system also detects a change in the performance indicators due to the flow shaping procedure, and discontinues the procedure during the flow, responsive to the changed performance indicators not meeting the flow shaping criterion. The system may also resume the flow shaping procedure during the flow if the performance indicators subsequently meet the flow shaping criterion. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Management services are provided during local breakout at a femto access point (FAP). In an aspect, the FAP facilitates policy management and employs a policy component to perform an analysis and enforce a set of policies for dynamically selecting an optimal route for traffic received at the FAP based on a decision-making process. Typically, the set of policies can specify different routes based on various factors, such as, but not limited to, type of traffic, current and/or future network resource availability, current time, day and/or date, location of the FAP, location of a UE sending/receiving the traffic, a lowest cost route, and/or route based on cost-benefit, etc. Further, a monitoring component is employed to observe the route employed by that traffic, which can be utilized by various services, such as, billing, Quality of Service, security management, address management, failure management and/or provisioning.

When a service provider changes a configuration parameter in the communications network, a change to the configuration parameter is compared to a rule. When the change to the configuration parameter results in a perceivable improvement in quality of service, a notification is sent to a user's device. The notification informs the user's device of the improvement in quality of service caused by the change to the configuration parameter.

Explicit congestion notification (ECN) data that is utilized in a core portion of a cellular communication network has known issues associated with a first use scenario and an infrequent use scenario. Transmitting the probe in response to a communication session being established with a device of a network can mitigate the first use issue. Transmitting the probe in response to expiration of a probe timer in connection with a network traffic idle period can mitigate the infrequent use scenario.

Devices, methods and computer-readable media for providing control of switching of an interactive session in a communications network. Content may be switched between media presentation screens. Collected data is analyzed and a location of a user within the communications network is monitored. A presentation of a first screen the user is watching may be exchanged for a presentation of a second screen selected based upon a change in the location of a monitored user and the analysis of the collected data.

Devices, methods and computer-readable media for providing control of switching between media presentation screens

A method includes receiving a request to establish a group presence session between at least a first device associated with a first network and a second device associated with a second network. During the group presence session, multimedia content is provided to the first device and to the second device at substantially the same time, and first presence information from the first device is provided to the second device at substantially the same time as second presence information from the second device is provided to the first device. The method further includes synchronizing the multimedia content, the first presence information, and the second presence information based on a first device capability, a second device capability, information associated with the first network, and information associated with the second network. Synchronized content streams that include the multimedia content and presence information are transmitted to the devices via the respective networks.
