A composition and method for treating an aramid cord include a bisphenol-A-based- and/or a bisphenol-F-based-liquid epoxy resin, a reactive diluent, and a curing agent. The composition and method also may include an elastomer-modified epoxy-functional adduct and/or an elastomer-modified epoxy-resin adduct.

The present invention is directed to an airsleeve comprising an elastomeric liner; a reinforcing layer overlaying the liner; and an elastomeric cover overlaying the reinforcing layer; the reinforcing layer comprising: i) textile fibers having distributed over surface portions thereof an RFL adhesive; and ii) a plycoat formed from a rubber composition comprising: 100 parts by weight of at least one diene-based elastomer selected from natural rubber (NR), synthetic polyisoprene rubber (IR), butadiene rubber (BR) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR); from about 1 to about 40 parts by weight of a metal salt of an &#x3b1;, &#x3b2;-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and from about 0.2 to about 5 parts by weight of an organic peroxide.

Airsleeve

An air spring having a relatively low and a relatively high spring height includes a retainer, a base housing, an elastomeric sleeve secured to the retainer at a first end and secured to the base housing at a lower end to form a chamber, the elastomeric sleeve expanding from a relatively collapsed configuration at the low air spring height into an expanded configuration at the high air spring height. A confined bladder is disposed within the chamber, the bladder being inflatable to displace a variable portion of an expanded volume within the sleeve chamber at the high air spring height. The spring rate of the air spring is adjusted by an adjustment to the volume of air displaced by the inflated bladder within the sleeve chamber and by overpressurizing the bladder relative to the air spring sleeve, whereby the air spring is adapted to provide a relatively low spring rate at the lower height and a relatively high spring rate at the higher height.

A method of assembling the annular antenna and transponder tag includes formation of the antenna wire with an insulating cover therearound; cutting the covered antenna to length; stripping antenna wire ends; threading one antenna wire end through the transponder; splicing the antenna wire ends together; and injecting an insulating composition around the transponder tag and spliced antenna ends.

The air spring of the present invention combines both traditional air spring characteristics and components with internal hydro damping. The air spring has an upper retainer, a piston, an elastomeric sleeve secured to the upper retainer at a first end and secured to the piston at the lower end, and a damping device. The damping device has an upper and a lower variable volume chamber and a channel connecting the two variable volume chambers, and a damping fluid contained within the damping device.

The present invention is an air sleeve that has a tubular shape with opposing sleeve ends. At least one reinforcing ply extends from one sleeve end to the opposing sleeve end; the reinforcing ply has cords encapsulated in a ply coat compound and at least one end of the reinforcing ply terminates in one air sleeve end. According to the present invention, a reinforcement means is spaced from the end of the reinforcing ply by a distance greater than the ply coat compound.

A bellows type air spring having a circular lobed body member with an inner an outer rubberized fabric reinforcing ply and a bead ring at each end. The turn up portion at each end of the fabric layers is wrapped around the bead ring with the turn up portion of the inner ply extending axially inwardly from the bead ring a substantial distance beyond the end of the turn up portion of the outer ply on both ends of the spring to provide longer flex life and prevent premature cracking of the body member in the areas of the end bead rings. The manufacturing method involves the use of an inner fabric ply that is substantially longer in the axial direction than the outer ply instead of using both inner plies of the same axial length.

An engine mount for motor vehicles having two enclosed chambers containing hydraulic fluid, which chambers are separated from each other by a partition containing a damping channel passing therethrough to permit hydraulic fluid to flow back and forth between the chambers to damp vibrations imparted to the mount. The engine mount is equipped with a decoupling unit within one of the hydraulic chambers for coupling and decoupling the damping action of the mount in response to varying driving conditions and engine performance. The decoupling unit has a rigid member forming a cavity into which a flexible diaphragm is deflected when vibrations occur when the decoupling unit is set in a decoupling mode to prevent fluid from being pumped back and forth through the damping channel.

There is disclosed an improved method for open steam curing of mineral-loaded elastomers. It has been discovered that use of a vulcanization agent comprising a mixture of an alkyl phenol disulfide and a guanidine compound provides a synergistic curing system that is superior over the use of either component alone. The improved curing system of the present invention is particularly suited for the open steam curing of mineral-loaded chlorobutyl compounds. The cure system may be used in addition to zinc oxide and results in excellent states of cure as determined by tensile elongation and hardness measurements.

A method of manufacturing a closed, hollow toroidal structure having a rigid internal annular plate includes treating one annular surface of the plate with a release coating, applying to the other annular surface of the plate an adhesion promoting coating and positioning the plate within a mold having a generally toroidal internal cavity. Next, a fluid conduit is juxtaposed partially within the internal cavity of the mold adjacent to the annular plate and partially outside the internal cavity of the mold. The mold cavity is then filled with an elastomer followed by curing under heat and pressure.

Method of manufacturing a fluid actuator for brakes and clutches

This invention is a fluid actuator of the rolling lobe form in which a closed toroidal flexible membrane forms concentric rolling lobes on the inside and outside surfaces of an annular piston which moves axially into the membrane. The fluid actuator can be used in brake and clutch assemblies where the actuator is connected to a high pressure fluid source and serves to activate the brake or clutch assembly, a shaft or axle can pass through the center of the toroid.

This invention relates to an annular actuator (10) employing a closed toroidal elastomeric diaphragm (12) including in its interior a flat annular plate (14) adhered on one flat side (18) thereof to the interior peripheral surface (22) of the diaphragm (12). A shaft (114) or support may exit through a central passageway (16) in the center of the diaphragm. Hydraulic fluid is introduced into the actuator (10) to actuate the clutch (80) mechanism as a substitute for a hydraulic cylinder.
