An emergency exit door lock system configured to cooperate with a door hinged in a door frame for sensing when a person attempts to open the door, and for allowing the door to open after a subsequent delay. The system comprises an electromagnet affixable to a door frame for electromagnetically attracting an armature resiliently affixed at a variable armature separation distance to an armature mounting device, the device being affixable to the door. A proximity sensor including an analog Hall Effect device is mountable to the frame for detecting movement of the door away from a closed position. A controller, such as a micro-controller, receives a signal from the sensor and causes an alarm as a function of the signal. The signal is indicative of the armature separation distance, the controller being calibrate-able to provide a door alarm signal and door opening signal at any desired value of the armature separation distance.

Electromagnetic lock having distance-sensing monitoring system

Electrified access-control technology devices for a door, particularly electrified locks for a door, having embedded circuitry therein, and methods of making the same. One or more printed circuit boards (PCBs) having various electronic circuitry are secured inside a housing that encases an access-control device, particularly a lock, for a door. The one or more PCB(s) may be embedded on an internal surface of the housing such that the embedded PCB resides inside the housing along with the lock itself. The embedded PCB(s) avoid interference of both any working components of the lock inside the housing and any openings residing in the housing.

A door release system including a capacitive circuit that includes a touch bar, a microprocessor within the touch bar programmed with noise-discrimination software to sense touching of the bar, and at least one micro-switch within the bar to function as a back-up that picks up movement of the bar to release the latch should the capacitive circuit fail. Optionally, a sign illuminated by LEDs and an antimicrobial coating/treatment may be applied to the bar. The system is intended for use on magnetically locked doors. The addition of the micro-switches that are actuatable by continued movement on the touch bar after the bar is initially touched provides a redundant access function initiated by other than the capacitive effect of human touch, which is expected to simplify use and ease accessibility for personnel with prosthetics or who may otherwise have their hands occupied.

Access control device for a door

An access control system including bi-directional communication between a controller and peripheral authentication devices utilized for selectively accessing a locked door is provided. The access control system provides components and circuitry to enable a user to securely assign and designate any card reader compatible card as an appropriate programming card and thereby activate or deactivate users and/or cards. The present invention further provides encrypted communication between the controller device and a PC.

Controller-keypad/card reader identification system including card programming and secure communications

A drive mechanism for door hardware, such as a pushbar exit device, includes a driver for moving a component of the door hardware, a controller for controlling the operation of the driver, a sensor for detecting motion of the moving component and a spring connected between the driver and the door hardware component. The spring allows the driver to move for a period of time after the component has stopped moving. The controller monitors the sensor and moves the component until the sensor indicates that the driven component has stopped moving. The sensor produces an output signal and the controller detects an inflection point in the output signal when the component stops moving while the driver is still operating.

Door hardware drive mechanism with sensor

An electromagnetic lock monitoring system for monitoring the strength of a magnetic field in an electromechanical lock which is created when a steel armature plate is closed against an electromagnet. The system utilizes dual Hall Effect devices positioned in such a way that both ends of the electromagnet and both magnetic fields are monitored, and that the resulting monitoring effectively covers the complete contact surface between the electromagnet and the armature plate. Preferably, the Hall Effect devices are disposed in series at the point of maximum flux density within the center element of an E-shaped electromagnetic core, at opposite ends of the core. If the magnetic flux is below a preset limit, a relay also in series drops out, triggering an alarm which may be sonic, electronic, and/or visual, as is known in the prior art.

Electromagnetic lock monitoring system

An electro-mechanical lock for gates and similar applications having a latch assembly and a strike assembly. The strike assembly has a strike which is self-adjusting to accommodate misalignment to guide the strike roller into proper engagement in the latch assembly. The latch assembly has a latch which is operably connected to a solenoid by a trigger and transfer mechanism which provides pre-load capability.

Electro-mechanical lock

A modular escutcheon for a door lock including a plurality of covers. Each higher cover may progressively project outward from the surface of a door more than the covers below. Top and bottom edges of adjacent covers abut to form a joint, which may be partly or completely concealed resulting from the outward projections of higher covers. An escutcheon system may be provided that includes interchangeable parts, for example, there may be several different intermediate covers for use with the same lower and upper covers, or different upper covers that may be used in the same position. A variety of lock operating devices may be provided with the different covers to achieve different systems.

Modular escutcheon

A privacy keypad providing privacy for keypad character entry and concealment of a joint in an escutcheon. A privacy keypad may include a faceplate, a keypad disposed on the faceplate, and at least one protrusion integral with the faceplate. An escutcheon for a door lock may include a housing, a keypad disposed on the housing for unlocking the door lock, and at least one protrusion integral with the housing. The protrusion may obstruct at least partially a line of sight to the keypad. An escutcheon may include top and bottom covers with the top cover projecting outward from the surface of a door more than the lower cover, resulting in an at least partially hidden joint between covers. Top and bottom covers may be interchangeable with covers having similar edges.

Privacy keypad

A vertical door locking system includes a door lock with a deadbolt that moves horizontally, a striker with an upward facing strike opening that vertically receives the deadbolt and a lock controller. The striker includes an electrically operated catch to engage and release the deadbolt. The door lock and striker are mounted opposite each other, one to the vertical door and the other to an adjacent fixed mounting point. The lock controller electrically operates the striker to release the deadbolt and allow it to move vertically out of engagement with the striker for primary access to a secure area and the door lock allows the deadbolt to be retracted horizontally away from the striker for secondary access. A remotely located control system optionally controls the lock controllers of multiple doors and a central office control system is optionally connected to multiple remotely located control systems.

Vertical door locking system

An electromagnetic lock and status detection system and method therefor includes an armature, an electromagnet, and a status detection unit. The electromagnet is magnetically attracted to the armature into a mating relationship. A relatively high inductance is established in the electromagnet when the electromagnet is properly mated with the armature, and a relatively low inductance is established in the electromagnet when the electromagnet is not properly mated with armature. The status detection unit is coupled to the electromagnet to monitor the locking strength between the electromagnet and the armature. The unit monitors the locking strength by altering voltage level provided to the electromagnet and measuring the counter EMF induced in the electromagnet.
