Multiple access digital transmitter and receiver

A multi-channel digital transceiver (400) receives uplink radio frequency signals and converts these signals to digital intermediate frequency signals. Digital signal processing, including a digital converter module (426), is employed to select digital intermediate frequency signals received at a plurality of antennas (412) and to convert these signals to baseband signals. The baseband signals are processed to recover a communication channel therefrom. Downlink baseband signals are also processed and digital signal processing within the digital converter module (426) up converters and modulates the downlink baseband signals to digital intermediate frequency signals. The digital intermediate frequency signals are converted to analog radio frequency signals, amplified and radiated from transmit antennas (420).

Multi-channel digital transceiver and method

A method including the steps of digitizing a first radio frequency signal at a first clock rate to produce a first digitized signal, digitizing a second radio frequency signal at a second clock rate to produce a second digitized signal, performing a first signal quality measurement indicative of the signal quality of the first digitized signal, performing a second signal quality measurement indicative of the signal quality of the second digitized signal, and selecting one of the first and second digitized signals based on the first and second signal quality measurements.

Apparatus and method for digitizing and detecting a received radio

A wideband frequency signal digitizer and method for digitizing multiple bands of a wideband frequency signal. The digitizer and method providing for optimally positioning a segment (402) of the wideband frequency signal within a Nyquist band of an analog-to-digital converter. Remaining segments (402) of the wideband frequency signal are closely positioned relative to the first segment such that the entire wideband frequency signal (400) is easily digitized using a single or multiple analog-to-digital converters (36) while reducing or eliminating undesirable spurious signals.

Wideband frequency signal digitizer and method

A wireless communication system for simultaneously communicating overlapping wideband and narrowband signals. The system includes a transmitting station for embedding one or more narrowband signals (3-5) in a wideband signal (1) having a frequency spectrum encompassing the narrowband signals, and transmitting the resulting composite wideband signal (2). The system also includes a receiving station for receiving a composite wideband signal (60) and separating the embedded narrowband signal(s) (62, 63) from the wideband signal (61). In one embodiment, a cellular radiotelephone base station (35) is operable as both the transmitting and receiving station, communicating with remote subscriber units (29-31) having conventional transceivers (FDMA, TDMA and/or CDMA). The base station transmitter circuitry (10-17) includes FM and CDMA signal generators (10, 12), a combiner (15) for embedding the narrowband signal (3-5) in the wideband signal (1), and an AGC (14) and power detectors (11, 13) for controlling the narrowband signal power. The receiving circuitry includes a CDMA processing circuit having an FFT circuit (41), a threshold detector (42), a notch filter (43), and an inverse FFT circuit (44) for separating narrowband signals (62, 63) from the CDMA signal (61).
