A network having a device management server to execute Sync ML device management (DM) commands and manage associated mobile devices. The network may employ a broker to execute bundles comprising device management and provisioning activities, provisioning parameters etc. The broker may determine the sequence in which these device management and provisioning activities are executed and may employ the device management server to conduct the DM operations to interact with the associated mobile devices.

Network with broker for device management

A device client that supports customer care and distribution of update packages to electronic devices makes it possible to efficiently manage and update firmware and software in electronic devices. A terminal management/device management server employs extensions to an industry standard device management protocol to update configuration information, to provision the electronic device, and to manage the electronic device, for example. The electronic device may receive update packages, and update agent(s) in the electronic device may update the firmware and/or software of the electronic device. A diagnostic client in the electronic device facilitates remote diagnosis and a traps client facilitates setting traps and retrieving collected information. A terminal management server may remotely invoke control actions within the electronic device using management objects not supported by the industry standard device management protocol. A user of the electronic device may use a self-care portal to administer self-care and to conduct diagnostics. A subsequent customer-care call may use such information collected during self-care.

Mobile device client

Synchronizing at least first and second instances of PIM databases stored on a client device with at least one instance of a PIM database stored on a server, by running client synchronization software on the client device, running server synchronization software on the server, which is connected to the client device over a communications link, having the client synchronization software determine changes made to the first and second instances on the client device, transmitting the changes in a single transmission, and having the server synchronization software process the changes for both the first and second instances.

Communication protocol for synchronization of personal information management databases

In order to transfer data between two databases, a computer program automatically establishes a field map between the record structures of the two databases using information identifying the record structure of one of the databases. The field map is established automatically by correlating a first plurality of the fields of the first database to a second plurality of the fields of the second database to establish a field map. The data stored in the first plurality of fields of a plurality of the records of the first database is then translated in accordance with the field map. The information identifying the record structure of one of the databases identifies the record structure according to a selected field identification protocol identifying the categories and properties of the fields in the record structure of that database. This information may be transmitted to the computer program ahead of any data transfer so that a data transfer protocol, including the field map, may be established prior to the start of the data transfer.

Transferring records between two databases

A computer implemented method and a computer program for synchronizing a first and a second database, where data is provided for keeping track of whether the records of the first database have been added or changed since a previous synchronization. Based data reflecting whether the records of the first database have been added or changed since a previous synchronization, it is determined whether the records of the first database have been changed or added since the previous synchronization. If one of the records of the first database has not been changed or added since the previous synchronization, a synchronization with records of the second database is performed using a record representative of the one record at the time of a previous synchronization. The representative record is stored in a history file which contains records reflecting the contents of records of the databases at the time of a previous synchronization.

Synchronization of databases

A computer implemented method is provided for synchronizing a first database located on a first computer and a second database located on a second computer. At the first computer, it is determined whether a record of the first database has been changed or added since a previous synchronization, using a first history file located on the first computer comprising records representative of records of the first database at the completion of the previous synchronization. If the record of the first database has not been changed or added since the previous synchronization, the first computer sends the second computer information which the second computer uses to identify the record of the first database to be unchanged.
