A dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95) with an inner bearing pan (15) and an outer bearing part (17) which is rotatable about the inner bearing part (15). The bearing parts (15, 17) are provided with cooperating bearing surfaces (23, 35) between which a bearing gap (45) is present filled with a liquid lubricant (75). The bearing surface (35) of at least one of the bearing pans (17) is provided with a pattern of grooves (51, 53). The outer bearing part (17) has an annular barrier (69, 87, 99) which is raised with respect to the bearing surface (35) of the outer bearing part (17) and which bounds the bearing gap (45). The barrier (69, 87, 99) prevents leakage of the liquid lubricant (75) from the dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95) at comparatively high rotation speeds of the dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95). The dynamic groove bearing (9, 83, 95) can be used in an electric motor (1, 81, 93) of a data storage unit (113) in which an information disc (115), for example a hard disk of a computer, can be rotated relative to a scanning unit (121) with a magnetic head (123) by the electric motor (1, 81, 93).

A support device (1) with a first bearing part (33) and a second bearing part (51). The first bearing part (33) is in a housing (11), while the second bearing part (51) is provided on a locking piece (53) fastened to the housing (11). Leakage along the locking piece (53) of a fluid present between the bearing parts (33, 51) is prevented by the use of a sealing element (59). The sealing element (59) is provided under pretension between the locking piece (53) and a pressure member (61, 87) fastened to the housing (11), the locking piece (53) bearing on the housing (11) under the influence of the pretension of the sealing element (59). Since the locking piece (53) bears on the housing (11) under the influence of the pretension of the sealing element (59), the locking piece (53) is fixed in an accurate position relative to the housing (11 ). An accurately defined mutual position of the first and the second bearing part (33, 51) is achieved in this manner.

A magnetic-tape apparatus has a magnetic-head unit with a magnetic head having a head face for guiding a magnetic tape. The magnetic head has transducing gaps for writing and/or reading information onto/from the magnetic tape. The magnetic-head unit further comprises two height limiters having tape-guide surfaces for guiding an edge of the magnetic tape. A tangent line, which is tangent to both tape-guide surfaces, extends perpendicularly to an imaginary line in the head face and passing through the transducing gaps. If an edge of the magnetic tape is in contact with the two height limiters, the position of the magnetic tape relative to the magnetic head is always the same, so that no azimuth errors can arise. In order to bring this edge of the magnetic tape into contact with the height limiters, the magnetic-head unit is mounted so as to be pivotable about an axis perpendicular to a tangent plane to the head face at the location of the transducing gaps. This axis extends through the center of gravity of the magnetic-head unit.
