A method for measuring a glomerular filtration rate in a mammalian kidney comprises a source of reporter and marker fluorescent molecules. The fluorescent molecules are introduced into the blood stream of a mammalian subject. Over a period of time, a measurement of the intensities of the reporter and marker fluorescent molecules is taken. A ratio is calculated to determine the health of the subject's kidney. This method measures volume of plasma distribution based on a fluorescence of a marker molecule relative to a fluorescence of a reporter molecule.

Renal function analysis method and apparatus

A method for measuring a glomerular filtration rate of a mammalian subject comprises a source of reporter and marker fluorescent molecules. The fluorescent molecules are introduced into the vascular system of the mammalian subject. Over a period of time, a measurement of the intensities of the reporter and marker fluorescent molecules is taken. A ratio is calculated to determine the glomerular filtration rate.

A passive low power device for detection of boundary crossings includes a dual element pyro-electric infrared (PIR) sensor. The sensor is designed with a lens that provides a very narrow field of view and two pyro-electric elements that produce a waveform with two voltage swings of opposite polarity when a warm object moves past the sensor. The waveform is filtered and amplified before it is passed on to a comparator. The comparator triggers off the extremes of each waveform. The comparator includes two outputs that are normally high, but go low when a change in infrared radiation is detected. A processor makes an approximation of the zero crossing time based on the rising edge of the first comparator output. This approximate zero crossing time serves as an estimate of the boundary crossing time.

Passive infrared device for detection of boundary crossings

Tool apparatus is provided for flaring the end portion of thermoplastic pipes and tubes, and includes a flaring head having a forming recess adapted to receive the pipe end portion and a cam edge portion adjacent to the recess for engaging the pipe end portion in a forming action. Mandrel means are threadedly connected with the flaring head for movement of the head toward the mandrel means about which the pipe being formed is clamped. The forming recess is defined by a frusto-conical surface inclined to the axis of the head in cooperation with an oppositely inclined surface, and the cam edge portion is defined between the frusto-conical surface and a side wall portion of the head. The diameter of the apex of the circular V intersection of the recess-defining surfaces is preferably equal to the outside diameter of the pipe.

Tool for flaring pipe end portions

A tool for flaring and doubling over the end of thermoplastic pipe and tubes wherein the tool includes a pair of superposed clamping bars, one being mounted to a stationary fixture and the other bar being hingedly connected at one end thereto. The hinged bar clamp is held in a clamped fixed position by a releasable toggle clamp device which is secured to the fixed bar clamp. Each bar is provided with a plurality of corresponding arcuate non-semicircular notches of various sizes to accommodate each particular sized pipe. A mandrel and flaring head which can be power driven, is also provided for flaring and doubling over the free end of the plastic tube or pipe when positioned within the clamping tool.
