A method for delivering a target volume of fluid to a destination is provided. The method includes delivering a first volume of fluid to the destination in increments each having approximately a first incremental volume, the first volume of fluid being less than the target volume and delivering a second volume of fluid to the destination in increments each having approximately a second incremental volume, the second incremental volume being less than the first incremental volume, such that the sum of the first volume and the second volume is approximately equal to the target volume.

The Drover's Alley allows cattle to be sorted and moved inside the shelter and to be restrained on the bedding pack while concrete alley is scraped.

There exists a need in the art for high throughput screening assays that can identify compounds that specifically modulate the activity of fast-acting ion channels, such as TRPM5. Current methods, especially electrophysiological, suffer from a lack of sensitivity, rapid signal loss, low throughput, and are labor intensive. The claimed methods and compositions provide electrophysiology methods that allow prolonged sample testing and fluorescent assays with an optical readout that gives rapid readout of the results, has a high signal to noise background ratio, are easy to use, can be modified for automation and miniaturization, and provide verification that a compound specifically modulates TRPM5.

Thymol, a lower alkyl phenol anti-infective and the active ingredient in, e.g., mouthwashes, is stringent and has an objectionable burning taste sensation. Thymol activates the transient receptor potential like ion channel TRPA1. The assay described and claimed herein involves measurement of activation of TRPA1 and enables the screening of compounds that inhibit lower alkyl phenol, or thymol activation of TRPA1. Inhibitors of thymol activation of TRPA1 can be used to prevent the objectionable taste of thymol in medical uses where taste limits acceptance.

A hog farrowing system for use in a cold environment includes a building providing protection from weather elements. The farrowing boxes have an entrance to permit free ingress and egress of female hogs but restrain the piglets. An alley is provided outside the boxes for the female hogs to defecate, urinate, and move to feed and water stations outside the boxes. The boxes have sides which define an inner chamber, a heat system, bedding for the female hogs to nest, and insulation covering an open top during cold environment conditions. The method utilizes the steps of promoting the female hog to utilize natural instincts, promoting the female hog to give birth to piglets close to the heat source, and protecting the piglets from crushing by using a creep area, anti-crush rods and anti-crush boards. The farrowing boxes can be modified for use in a warm season.

An improved machine for performing a swaging operation includes a mandrel and an expandable collet that are mounted to an actuator such as a conventional pneumatic gun. The mandrel includes a plurality of ramped planar engagement surfaces that are slidably engageable with a plurality of planar reaction surfaces on deflectable segments of the collet. The planar nature of the engagement surfaces and the reaction surfaces avoids unwanted deflection of the segments that would otherwise turn the segments into cutting tools, such as would occur if the surfaces were of certain other shapes. The mandrel is rotatably mounted to the pneumatic gun whereby the engagement surfaces are self-aligning with the reaction surfaces during an initial stage of a swaging operation.
