A watercraft includes a hull, an engine compartment defined at least in part by the hull, an engine disposed in the engine compartment, an air intake conduit fluidly connected to the engine, an air filter fluidly connected to the air intake conduit, and a shroud connected to an inlet end of the air intake conduit located in the engine compartment. The shroud has an open end and a closed end. The open end is open to flow of air therethrough and the closed end is closed to flow of air therethrough. The shroud has a sidewall extending between the closed and open ends. The shroud is oriented such that the open end is disposed rearward of the closed end. Noise exiting the inlet end of the air intake conduit and the air filter is reflected generally rearward by the shroud. An engine assembly for a watercraft is also disclosed.

Engine assembly for a watercraft

A method for reversing a watercraft is disclosed. The watercraft has a reverse gate and a reverse gate actuator operatively connected to the reverse gate for moving the reverse gate between at least a stowed position and a reverse position. The method includes moving the reverse gate from the stowed position to the reverse position with the reverse gate actuator in response to receiving a reverse signal. The reverse gate actuator is controlled such that a movement speed of the reverse gate depends on at least one of a speed of the watercraft and a motor speed of a motor of the watercraft.

Method for reversing a jet propelled watercraft

A watercraft includes a watercraft control mechanism that is capable of steering, decelerating, and/or trimming a watercraft without causing the stern to elevate and the bow to dive; steers or assists steering in off-power situations; steers, trims and/or decelerates a watercraft, or assists in steering, trimming, and/or decelerating a watercraft that can be stowed or retracted to minimize hydrodynamic drag at high speeds; steers, trims and/or decelerates a watercraft, or assists in steering, trimming, and/or decelerating a watercraft that does not become clogged or jammed by seaweed or flotsam or foreign objects floating in the water; and decelerates or assists in decelerating a watercraft in a smooth and stable manner when the watercraft is travelling at high speeds.

Watercraft control mechanism

A watercraft comprises a hull, an internal combustion engine, a propulsion system, and an air/water separating device. The separating device comprises a container having an inlet port and an outlet port. The inlet port enables at least ambient air to enter the container and the outlet port is communicated to the air intake of the engine. The separating device has structure providing spaced apart generally vertical surfaces that define a plurality of elongated tortuous paths between the inlet and outlet ports. The tortuous paths have one or more angular portions and are positioned and configured such that the ambient air passes through the elongated tortuous paths so that water suspended in the air is separated from the air as the air passes through angular portions of the paths with the separated water flowing downwardly along the surfaces to a bottom of the container by gravity.

Watercraft having air/water separating device

A personal watercraft with an exhaust system including a first and second mufflers each disposed in opposite sides of the hull. A manifold pipe communicates the engine with the first muffler. A transfer pipe communicates the first muffler with the second muffler. An outlet pipe communicates the second muffler to the atmosphere at an exhaust point located at an opposite side of the hull. The outlet pipe has a raised portion between the second muffler and the exhaust point so that only rotation of the watercraft in a first rotational direction will cause entrant water in the outlet pipe to flow into the second muffler. The transfer pipe has a raised portion between the first and second mufflers so that only rotation of the watercraft in second rotational direction about the longitudinal axis opposite the first rotational direction will cause water that has flowed into the second muffler to flow into the first muffler.

Personal watercraft having an improved exhaust system

A watercraft includes an engine having an output shaft. A coupling structure is provided on one end of the output shaft. A driveshaft has an engine connecting axial end portion. The engine connecting end portion provides a first cooperating interlocking structure. A resiliently deformable cushioning structure has a second cooperating interlocking structure and is mounted to the engine connecting end portion with the first and second interlocking structures interlocking with one another to secure the cushioning structure on the engine connecting end portion. The coupling structure couples the output shaft and driveshaft together so that powered rotation of the output shaft is transmitted to the driveshaft. The cushioning structure is positioned between the engine connecting end portion and output shaft such that the cushioning structure prevents the engine connecting end portion from abutting directly against the output shaft during relative movement of the driveshaft and output shaft towards one another.
