Audio splicing is rendered more effective by the use of one or more truncation unit packets inserted into the audio data stream so as to indicate to an audio decoder, for a predetermined access unit, an end portion of an audio frame with which the predetermined access unit is associated, as to be discarded in playout.

An encoder for encoding secondary media data including metadata and control data for primary media data is shown, wherein the encoder is configured to encode the secondary media data using adding redundancy or bandlimiting and wherein the encoder is configured to output the encoded secondary media data as a stream of digital words. Therefore, the stream of digital words may be formed such that it is capable to resist a typical processing of a digital audio stream. Furthermore, processors for processing a digital audio stream are able to process the stream of digital words, since the stream of digital words may be designed as an audio-like or analog-like digital stream.

Decoder for decoding a media signal and encoder for encoding secondary media data comprising metadata or control data for primary media data

A decoder device for decoding a bitstream so as to produce therefrom an audio output signal, the bitstream having audio data and optionally loudness metadata containing a reference loudness value, wherein a gain control device has a reference loudness decoder configured to create a loudness value, wherein the loudness value is the reference loudness value in case that the reference loudness value is present in the bitstream; wherein the gain control device has a gain calculator configured to calculate a gain value based on the loudness value and based on a volume control value, which is provided by an external user interface allowing a user to control the volume control value, and a loudness processor configured to control the loudness of the audio output signal based on the gain value.
