A device for adjusting the effective length of a connecting rod for an internal combustion engine, includes at least one connecting rod which has a variable length and which can be locked in at least two length settings, at least one first oil pump for supplying oil to the at least one connecting rod with a variable length, and a control unit which provides for a switchover between the length settings of the connecting rod in the event of a change in the oil supply pressure for the connecting rod. The aim of the invention is to shorten the switching times during a switchover between the length settings of the connecting rod. A method for providing such a device for adjusting the effective length of a connecting rod is also provided.

The invention relates to a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine comprising at least one cylinder block which has a cooling jacket () and comprises multiple cylinders (). The cooling jacket () has a base () facing a crankcase and a cover () facing a cylinder head sealing plane (), and the base () has an undulating course when seen in a lateral view of the cylinder block. A first spacing (H) between two adjacent cylinders () in the region of at least one first motor transverse plane () is larger than a second spacing (H) between the base () of the cooling jacket () and the cover () in the region of at least one second motor transverse plane () containing the cylinder axis () when measured in the direction of the cylinder axis () in both cases. In order to minimize cylinder deformations, the base () of the cooling jacket () has at least one first flat section () arranged on a first reference plane (&#x3b5;) in the region of the first motor transverse plane (), wherein the first reference plane (&#x3b5;) is preferably formed parallel to the cylinder head sealing plane () of the cylinder block. Thus, the base () has a roof-like shape starting from the flat section in the region between the screws in the free cylinder lining region (the cylinder tube between the tapped holes).

A current generating unit configured to extend the range of an electric vehicle, including an internal combustion engine formed by a rotary-piston engine, and at least one electric machine cofigured to be excited by permanent magnets and arranged coaxially to the internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine and the electric machine are arranged as a unit and include a common housing and a common cooling system, with at least one cooling channel arrangement disposed on the electric side and configured to cool an electric component in the cooling circuit of the cooling system upstream of at least one cooling channel arrangement of the internal combustion engine.

An internal combustion engine has a crankcase for a plurality of cylinders, which has hollow vertical reinforcements in the area of the side walls of the crankcase in the area of the main bearing planes, at least a part of the vertical reinforcements being implemented as oil recirculation passages between cylinder head and crankcase. At least one vertical reinforcement which conducts blow-by gas has a connection for a blow-by gas line leading to an oil separator.
