Systems and techniques are disclosed for using machine learning to dynamically detect physical impairments in lines of a subscriber network. In some implementations, per-tone data for a line of a subscriber network and data indicating a set of one or more scores is obtained. Each score included in the set of scores indicates a conditional likelihood that the line has a type of impairment with respect to a different feature subset ensemble. The per-tone data and the data indicating the set of one or more scores is provided as input to a model. The model is trained to output, for each of different sets of feature subset ensembles, a confidence score representing an overall likelihood that a particular line has a physical impairment. Data indicating a particular confidence score representing an overall likelihood that the line has the physical impairment is obtained. The particular confidence score is provided for output.

Dynamic subscriber network physical impairment detection techniques

Multiple ports of a vectored digital subscriber line (DSL) system can be automatically reconfigured to respond to a fault or defect associated with another one of the ports of the system. Information regarding retrain events for the ports of the system can be examined to identify the 'bad' port with the associated fault or defect and the corresponding group of ports affected by the bad port. The affected group of ports can be identified as a group of ports that all were retrained within a predetermined time period and for common retrain reasons (e.g., 1 or 2 different retrain reasons). Once the affected group of ports is identified, the affected group of ports and the bad port can receive corresponding repair profiles to reconfigure the ports to respond to the fault or defect.

Automatic configuration updating to stabilize ports in a telecommunication system

In a system for identifying subscriber lines, an end of a subscriber line is coupled to and terminated by a transceiver of interest. The other end of the subscriber line is coupled to a speaker. The transceiver is then selectively activated and deactivated causing it to transmit its normal frequency spectrum in a predefined pattern. The frequency spectrum includes frequencies audible to humans. Thus, the speaker produces sound capable of being heard by a human, and the sound exhibits periods of noise followed by periods of silence. Indeed, the periods of noise and silence are in a pattern according to the activation/deactivation pattern of the transceiver. Thus, a user can identify the subscriber line that is coupled to the transceiver by identifying which of the lines is coupled to the speaker when the speaker emits noise and silence according to the predefined pattern.

Systems and methods for identifying subscriber lines

Systems and methods for locating faults in a digital subscriber line (DSL) system in accordance with the disclosure include a handshake messaging procedure that is used to rapidly obtain interconnectivity information of various subscriber loops that are present in a DSL repeater chain. The interconnectivity information is used to provide an identification of one or more faulty loops when such faulty loops are present in the DSL repeater chain. The identification may be provided in the form of a topological representation that can be used to execute targeted line testing procedures on the faulty loops without wasting time on testing loops that are not faulty.

Digital subscriber line fault locating systems and methods

A communications system includes at least one telecommunications access module coupled to a plurality of communications subscriber line pairs and comprising at least one bonding engine. A module is configured to receive a provisioning request and determine the total number of communications subscriber line pairs available to form a bonding group and select at least one bonding engine for the bonding group. A data processor is configured to determine a maximum packet fragment size for the data packets based on the total number of available subscriber line pairs forming the bonding group. A maximum packet fragment size is adapted to the number of communications line pairs within the bending group and the bonding engine fragments the data packets into the packet fragments. A transmitter receives the packet fragments and transmits the packet fragments over the communications subscriber line pairs forming the bonding group.

Communications system with bonding engine configured for maximum packet fragment size as adapted to communications line pairs and related method

A communications system includes at least one telecommunications access module coupled to a plurality of communications subscriber line pairs and comprising at least one bonding engine. A data communication system comprises a forward error correction (FEC) module, a first transceiver, a second transceiver, and logic. The FEC module is configured to receive data and to define FEC code words based on the received data. The first transceiver is coupled to a first communication line, and the second transceiver is coupled to a second communication line. The logic is configured to selectively enable the FEC module to implement a desired FEC scheme based on an estimated error rate associated with the first communication line and an estimated error rate associated with the second communication line.

Data communication system and method for selectively implementing forward error correction

A forward error correction system comprises a forward error correction (FEC) module and a transmission module. The FEC module is configured to define a plurality of FEC code words, and the transmission module is configured to transmit the FEC code words to a remote receiving unit via a plurality of communication connections. The transmission module is further configured to ensure that characters of each of the FEC code words are transmitted across different ones of the communication connections.

An autobaud mechanism is executed by transceivers coupled to opposite ends of a communication loop, such as an extended range SDSL loop, to resolve the maximum data rate that can be supported by the loop, using signal power and quality measurements to first estimate the length of the SDSL loop and thereafter iteratively adjust baud rate and/or number of bits/per baud, as necessary, to realize an SDSL baud rate that will ensure error-free transmission over the loop.
