This disclosure provides a method of measuring the axial rotation of a selected vertebra of a patient using a magnetic resonance (MR) image. The method includes: identifying, in the MR image, two or more features of the selected vertebra; determining a first axis connecting the identified features; identifying, in the MR image, two or more features of the patient's surrounding anatomy that are not features of the selected vertebra; determining a second axis connecting the identified features of the patient's surrounding anatomy; measuring the angular difference between the first and second axes; and determining the axial rotation of the cervical vertebra based on the measurement. In some examples of the disclosure, determining the axial rotation of the cervical vertebra is based on the degree of perpendicularity between the first and second axes.

Methods, apparatus and systems magnetic resonance imaging. The system may acquire images associated with a target region the body part including the target region moves, using a series of imaging planes correlated with the motion. The images are then displayed in time order sequence to provide a motion picture. The system may also provide for imaging in multiple planes such as mutually-perpendicular planes with rapid and facile switching between these planes. The multi-plane views can be used, for example, to monitor insertion of an instrument into the patient.

In one aspect, the present disclosure describes a method for detecting cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow of a subject in which magnetic resonance imaging signals of a selected region of interest of the subject's anatomy are acquired. Preferably, the selected region of interest comprises the cerebro-spinal anatomy. A central location of the selected region of interest of the subject's anatomy is determined and used to determine a mean intensity value associated with image pixels of the central location. The mean intensity value is then used to establish interior and exterior outlines of the the selected region of interest of the subject's anatomy so that the CSF flow within the interior and exterior anatomical outlines may be measured or detected.

Image directed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow determination method and system

A method and system for correlating slice profiles associated with a series of magnetic resonance images taken at a plurality of positions. The method comprises first positioning a patient in a first position in the imaging volume of the magnet. A scout scan is then acquired. Selection is then made of an anatomical landmark in the scout scan, which will be referred to as an anatomical fiducial. A particular slice, typically one of a stack of slices to be acquired in a subsequent scan, is selected and precisely positioned at the location of the anatomical fiducial in the scout scan. Following completion of the scan, the patient may be repositioned, necessitating a new scout scan to set up parameters for a second scan.

Method of correlating a slice profile

Aspects of the disclosure relate generally to aligning a patient with a target position of a magnetic resonance imaging system. For example, a computer may receive an input identifying a set of coordinates to be aligned with a target position of the magnetic resonance imaging system. The coordinates may correspond to a position of an anatomical feature of a patient within the magnetic resonance imaging system. The computer may also calculate a first travel distance and a second travel distance. Each of the first and second travel distances may be a distance along first and second axes, respectively, along which a patient handling system of the magnetic resonance imaging system is capable of moving. The computer may further reposition the patient handling system according to both the first travel distance and the second travel distance such that the anatomical feature is aligned with the target position.

A patient is examined by magnetic resonance imaging in different positions relative to gravity by moving the patient relative to the magnet, and the acquired data is compared to show differences in anatomy due to differences in patient position. Individual data elements or groups of plural data elements representing particular locations in one set of image data can be compared with data elements associated with the same locations in another set of image data, to yield a set of comparison image data elements. The comparison data set can be used to detect difference caused by differences in position of the patient.

Positional magnetic resonance imaging

An MRI pulse sequence control system includes a pulse sequence controller, a controller, and a performance monitor module. The pulse sequence controller generates pulse sequence control data. The controller controls scanner devices according to the control data. The performance monitor module monitors performance of the controller during an MRI scanning procedure and provides controller performance information to the pulse sequence controller. The pulse sequence controller modifies the control data in response to the controller performance information. The controller responds to the control data during the MRI scanning procedure. A process for detecting errors in an MRI scan process includes monitoring performance of the controller during the MRI scanning procedure. Controller performance information is provided to the scanning pulse sequence controller. Control data generated by the scanning pulse sequence controller is modified in response to the controller performance information. The controller responds to the control data during the MRI scanning procedure.

Process and system for detecting and correcting errors in an MRI scan process

Multi-slice selectable resolution NMR data acquisition in which multiple slice regions in an object are defined, and the slice regions are excited to emit NMR signals. The NMR signals are spatially encoded, and at least two selected slice regions are excited to emit NMR signals encoded with different spatial resolutions.

Method of selectable resolution magnetic resonance imaging

An apparatus for obtaining, in the course of a single scan, NMR image data for a plurality of selected planes in an object, oriented at different angles, utilizes a slice pointer for outputting a signal indicating a particular plane to a multiplier and offset parameter RAM which provides multiplier and offset terms corresponding to the angle of the plane. A generator provides a generic gradient waveform to an arithmetic unit which combines this waveform with the multiplier and offset parameters from the RAM to create waveforms, which when applied to the gradient coils of an NMR apparatus, rotate the slice selector and the readout gradients, thereby permitting image data to be obtained in planes having different angles. A method in accordance with the apparatus of the present invention is also disclosed.

Apparatus and method for multiple angle oblique magnetic resonance

A method for obtaining in the course of a single scan T1-weighted and T2-weighted NMR imaging data for a plurality of selected planes in an object using nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. The method is accomplished by positioning an object to be imaged in a static homogeneous magnetic field and then carrying out a plurality of repetitions of a repetition sequence composed of NMR excitation and magnetic field gradient pulses for a plurality of selected planes in the object. The repetition sequences for each of the selected planes include a combination of a T1-weighted pulse sequence having a TE.sub.1 and TR.sub.1 suitable for obtaining T1-weighted NMR imaging data and a T2-weighted pulse sequence having a TE.sub.2 and TR.sub.2 suitable for obtaining T2-weighted NMR imaging data. The repetition sequence for each selected plane is repeated a plurality of times and carried out in a manner so as to encode spatial information into the collection of NMR signals. Also, the T1-weighted and T2-weighted pulse sequences for each selected plane is carried out during the recovery time intervals provided in the repetition sequence for other selected planes. In this manner, T1 and T2-weighted NMR image data for a plurality of planes are obtained in a single scan in significantly reduced time.
