Blind fasteners and methods of fastening are provided. A blind fastener comprises a sleeve and a mandrel. The sleeve is adapted for installation into a threaded bore in a structure. The sleeve comprises a head portion configured to receive a torque, a first sleeve end, a second sleeve end, an elongate portion extending intermediate the first sleeve end and the second sleeve end, and a cavity extending from the first sleeve end to the second sleeve end. The mandrel is at least partially disposed through the cavity of the sleeve. The mandrel comprises a first mandrel end disposed adjacent to the first sleeve end. The first mandrel end comprises an enlarged portion having a diameter greater than a diameter of the cavity. The elongate portion is configured to at least partially deform into threads of the threaded bore responsive to forcible contact between the enlarged portion and the sleeve.

Blind fasteners and methods of fastening

Anti-shingle rivets are provided. The anti-shingle rivets comprise a head portion comprising an outer edge configured to inhibit shingling in a rivet delivery system and a shank extending from the head portion.

The present disclosure relates to a blind fastener and a method of installation thereof. The blind fastener comprises a sleeve and a mandrel. The sleeve comprises a first sleeve end, a second sleeve end, and a cavity extending from the first sleeve end to the second sleeve end. The mandrel is configured to be at least partially received by the cavity of the sleeve. The mandrel comprises a first mandrel end disposed adjacent to the first sleeve end and comprising an enlarged portion having a diameter greater than a diameter of the cavity, a second mandrel end comprising a pull region, and a shank region extending intermediate the first mandrel end and the second mandrel end. The pull region comprises an axial length no greater than four times a diameter of the shank region and is configured to be engaged by an installation tool.

Blind fastener and method of installation thereof

Fastening collars, multi-piece fastening systems, and methods of fastening are provided. The fastening collar comprises a first end, a second end, and an elongate portion intermediate the first end and the second end and defining a longitudinal axis of the fastening collar. The elongate portion comprises a first region adjacent the first end, a second region intermediate the first region and the second end, and a cavity. The first region comprises a first diameter and is configured to be received by a bore of a structure. The second region comprises a second diameter greater than the first diameter. The cavity extends through the elongate portion and is configured to receive at least a portion of a shank of the multi-piece fastening system. The elongate portion is configured to at least partially deform onto the shank responsive to forcible contact between the second region and an installation tool.

A collet assembly including an actuator and a collet connected to the actuator. The collet assembly is adapted to be installed on a welding electrode holder having an electrode. The collet is moveable by the actuator from an advanced position, in which the collet is adapted to grip a fastener such as a welding rivet, and a retracted position, in which at least a portion of the collet is retracted into the actuator to enable the electrode to engage the fastener for welding to a work piece, and the collet is adapted to release the fastener.

Resistance spot rivet welding systems and methods of use thereof

Rivet dispenser systems and methods of use thereof are provided. In a non-limiting embodiment, the rivet dispenser system comprises a rivet receiving member defining a channel therein, and a seat member. The channel includes a curved region. The rivet receiving member comprises a first port and a second port. The first port communicates with the channel and is configured to receive rivets. The second port communicates with the channel and is configured to dispense rivets. The channel extends between the first port and the second port and is configured to transport rivets from the first port to the second port in a series arrangement and in a preselected orientation. The seat member communicates with the second port and is configured to selectively engage with a rivet holder of a resistance spot rivet welding apparatus and introduce a single rivet to the rivet holder at one time.

Rivet dispensing systems and methods of use thereof

An apparatus and method for method for joining materials includes a rivet that may extend through a first sheet to be resistance welded to a second sheet. The head of the rivet has a cavity and vents allowing adhesive extruded from a pilot hole to be received in the cavity and vented in a direction parallel to the first sheet. The rivet is deformed to an hourglass shape that fills the pilot hole and displaces the first sheet into the cavity. Rivet dimension allow for holding with a robotic gripper that can be withdrawn before welding. Methods of monitoring joint quality include comparing welding parameter profiles and images of good and discrepant joints.

Resistance welding fasteners, apparatus and methods for joining dissimilar materials and assessing joints made thereby

A fastener feed apparatus includes a mounting portion and a feed portion attached movably thereto. The feed portion includes a feed body having first and second ends and an internal track extending therethrough. The internal track is sized and shaped to convey a fastener through the feed body. The feed portion also includes a feeding block attached to the second end of the feed body and including a body and a pair of feed fingers, each of which includes a first end attached to the body and a second end. A track is formed between the feed fingers, is sized and shaped to convey the fastener from its first end to its second end, and is contiguous with the internal track of the feed body. The second end of the track includes a retention point. The feed fingers are sized and shaped to retain the fastener at the retention point.

Rivet feeding apparatus

A fastener installation tool including a cylinder assembly, a handle/sleeve assembly, and a tool head. The handle/sleeve assembly includes a handle having a bore and a sleeve positioned within the bore. An inner wall of the sleeve includes a first portion with a first inner diameter and a second portion with a second inner diameter. The sleeve includes an outer wall having a first portion with a first outer diameter and a second portion with a second outer diameter, the first outer diameter of the first portion of the outer wall of the sleeve being greater than the second outer diameter of the second portion of the outer wall of the sleeve. A space is formed between the second portion of the outer wall of the sleeve and the second portion of the inner wall of the handle, which enables the sleeve to flex during operation of the tool.

A fastener installation tool includes a nose assembly, first and second cylinders, first and second pistons, and a yoke. The nose assembly is adapted to apply an axial load to a fastener along a longitudinal axis of the nose assembly. The first and second cylinders are diametrically opposed to one another with respect to the longitudinal axis of the nose assembly. The first piston is disposed within the first cylinder and is movable along a longitudinal axis thereof. The second piston is disposed within the second cylinder and is movable along a longitudinal axis thereof. The yoke connects the first piston, the second piston, and the nose assembly such that motion of one of the pistons along its corresponding longitudinal axis causes motion of the other one of the pistons along its corresponding longitudinal axis and motion of at least a portion of the nose assembly along its longitudinal axis.

A nose assembly for a fastener installation tool including an anvil, a collet, and a drawbar having a primary bearing. A secondary bearing is positioned within the collet and located intermediate the primary bearing and jaws of the collet. The secondary bearing is offset from the fastener centerline by a first distance and from a pulling tool centerline axis defined by a longitudinal axis of the drawbar by a second distance. In a pull position, the primary bearing remains engaged with the anvil during a loaded stroke and limits anvil deflection relative to the fastener centerline, while the secondary bearing remains engaged with the collet during the loaded stroke and limits deflection of the collet relative to the fastener centerline. In a return position, the primary bearing remains engaged with the anvil during a return stroke, while the secondary bearing remains engaged with the collet during the return stroke.

A fastener installation tool including a cylinder assembly having a housing and a handle/sleeve assembly attached to the housing. The handle/sleeve assembly includes a handle having a bore and an inner wall defined by the bore. The handle/sleeve assembly further includes an outer sleeve having an outer wall and an inner wall, and an inner sleeve having an outer wall and an inner wall. The outer sleeve is positioned within the bore of the handle, while the inner sleeve is positioned concentrically within the outer sleeve to form an annular space between the outer wall of the inner sleeve and the inner wall of the outer sleeve. The annular space is utilized to conduct hydraulic fluid.

A pressure relief valve having a plurality of selectable, preset relief pressure settings for use in connection with hydraulic equipment. The pressure relief valve includes a manifold and a barrel fastened to the manifold. The manifold includes a chamber that houses a relief valve cartridge assembly, which includes a poppet valve. The barrel includes, a plurality of chambers, each of which houses a separate and distinct relief pressure load adjustment assembly, which includes a spring-loaded ball that engages the poppet valve. Each of the assemblies may be independently adjusted and preset to a desirable relief pressure load setting, which may be different from one another. The barrel is rotated relative to the manifold until the chamber housing the assembly that has the desired preset relief pressure load aligns with the chamber of the manifold, and, in turn, with the poppet valve.
