A scoop is used to collect a liquid slurry upstream of an internal collection tank. The scoop is in fluid communication with a downcomer, which receives at least part of the collected slurry, thereby maintaining a continuous flow of liquid slurry through the scoop to prevent plugging. Collected slurry can be removed for treatment from the scoop or the downcomer. In an application to a wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubber, the scoop collects an effluent slurry of partially reacted liquid scrubbing reagent and scrubbing byproducts before they drain into an internal reaction tank. Partially reacted liquid scrubbing reagent and scrubbing byproducts can therefore be withdrawn for treatment before the addition of fresh reagent alters the pH of the treatment stream.

Collection scoop for flue gas desulfurization systems with bleed streams or ex situ forced oxidation

A method of reducing the pressure drop in a downflow/upflow wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system and of improving overall sulfur dioxide collection efficiency by converting the downflow/upflow WFGD system to an upflow single-loop WFGD system. The method includes the replacing of the downflow quencher and related duct work with a bypass for connecting the incoming flue gas duct with the upflow absorber, and the adding of a quenching zone in the absorber comprised of spray headers.

Method of converting a downflow/upflow wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system to an upflow single-loop WFGD system

A system for eliminating mist from a flue gas while providing air toxic control includes a wet scrubber housing having an inlet at one of the housing for the entry of the flue gas and an outlet at an opposite end of the housing for the exit of the flue gas. Sprayers are located in the housing for spraying the flue gas with a cleaning liquid in order to remove contaminants from the flue gas. At least one heat exchanger is located in the housing above the sprayers in order to remove entrained contaminants from the flue gas by cooling the flue gas. The flue gas is channeled from the inlet past the collection trays, sprayers and heat exchanger prior to exiting the housing through the outlet. A mist eliminator is also provided for eliminating mist from the flue gas.

Contaminants such as sulfur oxides are removed from flue gas in a low pressure drop, turbulent mixing zone, vertical dry scrubber by channeling the flue gas through a low pressure drop gas distribution means which controls flue gas introduction to the scrubber, along with control of reagent introduction, by treating the flue gas with a finely atomized alkali solution or slurry reagent preferably from a single or multiple array of dual-fluid atomizers. The atomizers create a turbulent mixing zone downstream of the gas distribution means which results in a homogeneous distribution of the alkali solution or slurry reagent in the flue gas. Control means are provided for creating and maintaining the turbulent mixing zone. A transition at the bottom of the dry scrubber is used to entrain any particulates and/or spray dried materials in the bulk gas stream exiting the dry scrubber.

A system is disclosed for minimizing equipment and flue fouling for any boiler, turbine, or combustion process in which heat recovery is advantageous and pollutant removal is necessary. The process uses an SCR located upstream of a condensing heat exchanger and maintains the temperatures in the flue gas duct such that ammonia slip and ammonium salt products are collected only on the heat exchanger surfaces which are periodically washed with water and this wash water being collected.

Enhanced heat exchanger flue gas treatment using steam injection

A method and apparatus is described for removing acid gases, air toxics and/or other contaminants from a flue gas stream formed during the combustion of fossil fuel, and/or waste materials. The flue gas stream is conditioned immediately downstream of the combustion source with a finely atomized liquid which is preferably water. The water spray decreases the volume of the flue gas and cools the flue gas to condense air toxics or heavy metals on the baghouse fabric filters. Advantageously, this may utilize the alkalinity inherent in the fly ash component of the particulate to assist in the removal of acid gases and/or other contaminants via adsorption. Also, the conditioned gas reduces the flue gas volumetric flow rate and hence the size of the particulate collection device, and the cost of the fabric filter media.
