A filtration and subsurface distribution system having a vaulted splitting device (e.g., dosing vault) in a recirculating pump tank. The recirculating pump tank houses a sand filter pump and the dosing vault houses a dosing pump. The dosing vault and the dosing pump may be housed outside and remote from the recirculating pump tank which ensures that effluent will not be mixed within the dosing vault. The sand filter pump doses a sand filter with the septic effluent via a feed line. The effluent is then filtered by the sand filter and returned to the dosing vault via a filtrate return. When the filtrate reaches a certain predetermined level within the dosing vault, the drip pump is enabled and turned &ldquo;on&rdquo;. In this manner, the filtrate is dosed or dripped into a drain absorption field without mixing with the septic effluent.

Filtration and subsurface distribution system

A laminar flow collar for use with an effluent pump in a septic system. The laminar flow collar is a cylinder having a closed bottom and an open top portion. The laminar flow collar includes a plurality of holes drilled about the periphery of the cylinder at a certain distance from the bottom. The laminar flow collar sits on the bottom of the tank and the plurality of holes are positioned at a certain height from the bottom of the septic tank and below the surface of the effluent so as not to draw in &ldquo;scum&rdquo; floating on the top of the septic tank. The plurality of holes are engineered to match the pump flow so that flow into the collar is laminar, thereby avoiding turbulence in the tank which would otherwise stir up the sludge at the bottom of the tank. The effluent pump is inserted into a second cylinder which is placed within the laminar flow collar.

Laminar flow collar for use in a wastewater management system

An on-site waste water treatment system is disclosed suitable for domestic or other sewage. After the initial separation of the gravity settleable solids in a treatment tank, the effluent is conveyed to a recirculation/dosing tank. The recirculation/dosing tank has three level indicators which transmit information to the system controller. The low level indicator provides enough waste water to dose a media bed and dilute effluent from the treatment tank. While the low level indicator is activated, the waste water will circulate through a disc filter to a recirculating media bed. From the media bed, the effluent is returned to the recirculation/dosing tank, the waste water flows from the treatment tank to the recirculation/dosing tank and activates the second level indicator, enabling the system to pass the combined effluent through a disc filter to a final disposal field. If the second level indicator has been disengaged for a sufficient period of time, the effluent passes through the disc filter and recirculating media bed for a set number of times before the effluent is conveyed through the disc filter to the final disposal field.

Waste water disposal system

A recirculating sand filter system for the treatment of waste water comprises a septic tank (10) for receiving waste water, a recirculating pump tank (18) connected to the septic tank for receiving effluent from the septic tank and one or more sand filter modules (12, 14). The recirculating pump tank has a pump (48) connected to a pump outlet line (32) connected to the sand filter modules. A distribution pipe (28) connected to the pump outlet line is positioned to spray water over a surface of the sand filters. The pump is controlled by a timer (74) to periodically pump water to dose the sand filters. The sand filters have one or more collection pipes (34, 36) at the bottom of the filter for collecting filtrate and returning the filtrate to the recirculating pump tank via a return line (42) by gravity feed. A recirculating valve (52) in the recirculating pump tank is connected between the return line and a discharge line exiting the recirculating pump tank. The recirculating valve comprises a T-pipe (54) consisting of a horizontal straight section and a downwardly directed branching arm (66) having a large radius curvature allowing for smooth, nonturbulent flow. A float valve is connected to the branching arm for blocking the flow of water into the circulating pump tank when a level of water in the tank exceeds a predetermined maximum level.

Recirculating sand filter valve

A recirculating sand filter system for the treatment of waste water comprises a septic tank (10) for receiving waste water, a recirculating pump tank (18) connected to the septic tank for receiving effluent from the septic tank, and one or more sand filter modules (12, 14). The recirculating pump tank has a pump (48) connected to a pump outlet line (32) connected to the sand filter modules. A distribution pipe (28) connected to the pump outlet line is positioned to spray water over a surface of the sand filters. The pump is controlled by a timer (74) to periodically pump water to dose the sand filters. The sand filters have one or more collection pipes (34, 36) at the bottom of the filter for collecting filtrate and returning the filtrate to the recirculating pump tank via a return line (42) by gravity feed. A recirculating valve (52) in the recirculating pump tank is connected between the return line and a discharge line exiting the recirculating pump tank. The recirculating valve comprises a T-pipe (54) consisting of a horizontal straight section and a downwardly directed branching arm (66) having a large radius curvature allowing for smooth, nonturbulent flow. A float valve is connected to the branching arm for blocking the flow of water into the recirculating pump tank when a level of water in the tank exceeds a predetermined maximum level.

Recirculating sand filter

Improvements are disclosed for liquid flow drainage control in gravity type systems such as sewage septic tank systems. A plastic cap which is insertable into the ends of the drainage pipes that project into a distribution box is formed with an end face and a cylindrical body. The end face is generally circular having a larger diameter than the outer diameter of the drainage pipes into which the cap is to be inserted. The outer periphery of the end face is provided with an interdigital or scalloped pattern to facilitate easy gripping even in the most adverse conditions. The end face is further provided with an eccentric discharge hole which is located along a diameter of the end face so that the hole is always some distance from the interior surface of the cylindrical body so that the hole forms a weir to the inlet of the drainage pipe into which the end cap is inserted. The eccentric hole is provided with an outwardly projecting flange which, in cooperation with a spirit level, is used for rough leveling. The cylindrical body is made of a pliant material allowing it to conform to the irregular internal diameter of a plastic drainage pipe. The projecting end of the cylindrical body is provided with a radially extending sealing flange which also conforms to the internal diameter of the plastic drainage pipe.

Liquid flow drainage control

A diverter valve adapted for use in septic systems for controlling the flow of effluent from a septic tank to a plurality of leach beds, comprising a thick-walled injection molded valve body of PVC or ABS plastic, closed at the bottom and having a centrally disposed valve chamber provided with an inlet, and a plurality of outlet ports, rigid integrally formed ribs extending from the top to the bottom walls of the valve body dividing the same into separate inlet and outlet chambers communicating with the central valve chamber, a circular opening in the top of the valve body adapted to receive an injection molded tapered valve plug, a retainer cap for securing the valve plug and stem in operative position, the lower sides tapered and in contact with the valve body and the lower surface of the depending ring of the cap provided with a serrated surface to form a tight seal with the valve plug. The valve plug has a cut-away central portion providing a passageway for alternately connecting the inlet port with one of the outlet ports while closing the other outlet ports, the valve plug having an integral shaft extending beyond the top surface of the valve body and adapted to rest in sliding contact with valve seats formed in both the top and side walls of the valve body. The upper external circular portion of the valve body is provided with a series of steps to accommodate access means, such as a pipe, of differing internal diameters. The valve plug is so dimensioned as to leave a small amount of play between the bearing surfaces of the valve body, and means are provided so that when the valve plug cut-away central portion is aligned with the inlet port and an outlet port, the bearing surfaces of the valve plug and the valve body are pressed into close contact to form a relatively tight seal. This results in a sealed unit adapted for use in septic systems operating either at normal or positive pressures.
