Sorbent compositions that include a base sorbent material having a high porosity and surface area and a boron-selective agent are particularly useful for the sequestration of boron from waste materials such as coal combustion residual leachate (CCRs). By using a boron-selective agent in conjunction with a high surface area base sorbent material such as activated carbon or biochar, a sorbent composition with a high capacity for sequestering boron at relatively low cost is provided.

Sorbent compositions for the removal of boron from aqueous mediums

A sorbent composition for enhanced baghouse function is described. The composition may include a sorbent such as powder activated carbon as well as an additive that is a heat moderator or a permeability agent. The heat moderator may act as a heat sink or barrier. Heat moderators may include in non-limiting examples phyllosilicates, cyclosilicates, or nesosilicates that may include, montmorillonite, bentonite, halloysite, aluminum silicates, muscovite, illite, kaolin, andalusite, kyanite, sillimanite, metakaolin, mullite, polymers, such as chitosan, and/or clays, either natural or synthetic (e.g., montmorillonite), or polyethylenimine. Permeability may be affected by mixing sorbents of lower D50 with sorbents of higher D50 in various ratios, or addition of a permeability agent such as a phyllosilicate, perlite, silica, diatomaceous earth. Further, a permeability agent such as a fluoropolymer may be coated onto or admixed with the sorbent. Diatomaceous earth, perlites, or silicates may also increase permeability. The compositions are particularly useful in flue gas treatment systems with baghouse separation units in that they have reduced combustibility and increased permeability properties.

Methods for the treatment of a flue gas stream in a flue gas train including a baghouse

Sorbent compositions, comprising a solid sorbent, a dispersive agent, and optionally a capture agent for enhanced wet-Flue Gas Desulfurization (wFGD) or wet scrubber unit function in a flue gas pollutant control stream is disclosed. The sorbent composition may include a sorbent with a dispersive agent, designed to enhance the dispersion of the sorbent in an aqueous sorption liquid of a wet scrubber unit, and therefore may be especially useful in EGU or industrial boiler flue gas streams that include one or more wet scrubber units. The sorbent composition may also include a capture agent useful in sequestering mercury and bromine, as well as other contaminants that may include arsenic, selenium and nitrates.

Methods for treating a flue gas stream using a wet scrubber unit

A multi-functional composition of matter that is useful for injection into a flue gas stream to rapidly and efficiently remove mercury from the flue gas streams, particularly at above average flue stream temperatures of about 340&#xb0; F. or higher. The multi-functional composition of matter may include a fixed carbon content of at least about 20 wt. %, a mineral content of from about 20 wt. % to about 50 wt. %, a sum of micropore plus mesopore volume of at least about 0.20 cc/g, a micropore volume to mesopore volume ratio of at least about 0.7, and a tapped density of not greater than about 0.575 g/ml. These compositions may be further characterized by number of particles per gram of the composition of matter such that the composition may have at least about 0.8 billion particles per gram, or even as many as 1.5 billion particles per gram. These physical and chemical properties may enhance (1) the oxidation reaction kinetics for the oxidation of mercury species, (2) frequency of contact events, and (3) capture and sequestration of mercury, to achieve efficient mercury capture by the composition even in high temperature flue gas streams.

Multi-functional composition of matter for removal of mercury from high temperature flue gas streams

A sorbent composition that is useful for injection into a flue gas stream of a coal burning furnace to efficiently remove mercury from the flue gas stream. The sorbent composition may include a sorbent with an associated ancillary catalyst component that is a catalytic metal, a precursor to a catalytic metal, a catalytic metal compound or a precursor to a catalytic metal compound. Alternatively, a catalytic metal or metal compound, or their precursors, may be admixed with the coal feedstock prior to or during combustion in the furnace, or may be independently injected into a flue gas stream. A catalytic promoter may also be used to enhance the performance of the catalytic metal or metal compound.

A sorbent composition such as for the removal of a contaminant species from a fluid stream, a method for manufacturing a sorbent composition and a method for the treatment of a flue gas stream to remove heavy metals such as mercury (Hg) therefrom. The sorbent composition includes a porous carbonaceous sorbent such as powdered activated carbon (PAC) and a solid particulate additive that functions as a flow-aid to enhance the pneumatic conveyance properties of the sorbent composition. The solid particulate additive may be a flake-like material, for example a phyllosilicate mineral or graphite.
