A method encoded in a memory of a specialized network node configured for allowing an SMSC to be informed of the location of the UE originating a short message via an IP-SM-GW and also of the location of the receiving UE when a short message is delivered through an IP-SM-GW. Additionally the disclosed method ensures that charging systems can correlate IP-SM-GW charging requests for a short message with any charging requests generated by the SMSC for the same message.

An apparatus and a method for a terminal device control server. The terminal device control server collecting, storing and providing information (i.e. device intelligence) relating to a plurality of terminal devices in a mobile communication network. Terminal device control server and method for controlling access to a mobile communication network

A method of processing a message in a short message service in which a router or alternatively a gateway makes a first attempt to deliver the message, the deliver attempt failing the router or gateway sends the message and other supporting information to a service center that can store the message and re-attempt delivery of the message. The supporting information provided by the router or gateway enables the service center to process the message in an efficient manner. The supporting information can include a failure type indicator, a charge indicator, a charge reference number, a virtual mobile indicator and a reply indicator.

An apparatus and a method for improving short message service dependability by reducing the risk of an SM being loss due to failure in a network having both an SMS routers and an SMSC and in which forward and store delivery or Early-Ack is enabled in the router. Alternative apparatus and methods are presented which mitigate the possibility of losing an SM before it is delivered to a recipient or received and persistently stored by the SMSC by placing the SM in a survivable storage medium before acknowledgement of the SM is sent to the submitter of the SM and by providing a recovery mechanism that can re-attempt a delivery or a forwarding of the SM, based on the content of the survivable storage medium, in the case of a failure.
