A thin, tactile sensor for measuring the width of a contact region between two loaded rollers. The sensor comprises an array of sensing elements disposed between two thin substrates, and including conductive traces to provide electrical connection to external measurement electronics. Relatively thin conductive electrode patterns are disposed transversely with respect to the direction of travel of the sensor through the rollers, and are positioned at predetermined lateral spacings such that activation of selected sensors provides indicia of nip width.

A load sensing assembly for sensing loads applied at a plurality of spaced locations around the perimeter of a closure employs a plurality of spaced load sensors disposed on a substrate, with one of the load sensors adapted to be positioned proximate each of the spaced locations, and a layer of a compliant elastomeric material disposed on the sensing assembly and overlying each load sensor.

A method and apparatus for improved tool set-up and adjustment using thin tactile sensors. A method is provided comprising the steps of affixing a plurality of sensing cells to the tool at spaced locations thereon, electrically connecting the sensing cells to a measuring instrument, establishing a measurement event threshold for each electrically connected sensing cell, detecting occurrences of the measurement events for each electrically connected sensing cell, and, in response to detecting these occurrences, adjusting the tool set-up consistent with the measurement events.

Method and apparatus for improved tool set-up and adjustment using thin

A molded oil pan gasket having an integrally formed pair of elastomeric side sections and pair of elastomeric end sections and a rail in each of the side sections. Each rail is an elongated rigid thermoplastic member having a generally flat main body of a first thickness and a plurality of integrally formed, longitudinally spaced stops. Each stop provides a fastener opening. The stops are of a height substantially greater than the first thickness, but less than the thickness of the associated side section. A plurality of apertures are formed in each rail for integrating the rail and the elastomer of the associated side section. A series of abutments and stiffening ribs are also disclosed.
