A computer-implemented method and system are disclosed for connecting one or more devices to subscriptions and cellular or other wireless billing plans. The method includes enrolling the one or more devices enabled for connectivity to cellular or other wireless service in a cellular or other wireless subscription and associated billing plan, wherein the enrollment includes providing an identifier for the one or more devices to a cellular or other wireless service provider chosen by a second user, and allowing the second user to use capabilities of the one or more devices governed by the cellular or other wireless subscription and an associated billing plan chosen by the second user; while the one or more devices are also configured to allow a first user to use capabilities of the one or more devices as governed by the cellular or other wireless subscription and an associated billing plan of the first user's choice.

Pair-the-plan system for devices and method of use

A method and system are disclosed for connecting a device to subscriptions and cellular billing plans of separate users and for managing the concurrent use of the device by the separate users. A computer-implemented method comprises enrolling a device in a cellular subscription and billing plan of a user. The enrollment includes providing an identifier for the device to a cellular subscription, effectively adding the device to the cellular subscription and billing plan selected by the user. The method and system allows the user to use capabilities of the device as governed by the cellular subscription and an associated billing plan as selected by that user, while the device is also available for use by another user via another cellular billing plan, as selected by that user.

A computer-implemented method and system are disclosed for connecting a device to subscriptions and cellular billing plans. A method and system for providing emergency location detection service for a vehicle is disclosed. The method and system comprise receiving one or more dual tone multi frequency (DTMF) signals by a vehicle via an active communication channel. The one or more DTMF signals are decoded and perform a corresponding vehicle function. A system and method in accordance with the present invention allows Public Safety Answering Point or 3rd party emergency service provider to send (DTMF) signals over a communication channel to activate vehicle system functions remotely such as engaging vehicle horn, flashing of headlights and/or taillights or emitting radio signals for the purpose of identification of location of the vehicle.

A system and method for enabling a service provider to select one or more digital cellular markets to receive a broadcast page, wherein each digital cellular market provides wireless communication services to a geographic region. The service provider to generate a broadcast page indicating a Virtual Device Identifier, the Virtual Device Identifier associated with a plurality of remote devices in each of the digital cellular markets selected, and wherein each of the remote devices includes a Primary Device Identifier uniquely identifying the remote device within the digital cellular markets, and wherein each of the remote devices further includes the Virtual Device Identifier associated with the plurality of remote devices. The service provider to further send the broadcast page to each digital cellular market selected, for transmission to the remote devices to send a message to remote devices having the Virtual Device Identifier.

A method for determining whether a particular service is provided by a cellular service provider comprising: listening for a page which includes a particular number plan area code ('NPA') in a first frequency block; if the page is not heard in the first frequency block within a specified time period, listening for a page in a second frequency block which includes the particular NPA; and determining that the service is provided in the frequency block in which the page is sensed.

System and method for locating a cellular service

A method and apparatus for providing navigation and information services. A mobile unit which includes a microphone and a speaker is used to communicate between a user and a service location. The service location includes a computer and data storage which includes data on geography, roads, road conditions, traffic and other data which may be of use to a user. The mobile unit includes a receiver and position determination processing circuitry for location determination. A user may obtain navigation information and routing information by pressing a button on the mobile unit so as to initiate communication with the service location. The user then verbally requests the information which he needs by speaking into the microphone. Using location data which is transmitted to the service location and the data in data storage, the computer compiles a response which is transmitted to the mobile unit and through the speaker for communication to the user. The response is stored in the mobile unit and may be reviewed manually. When the response includes voice based instructions, the voice based instructions may be incrementally broadcast to the user as required by the movement and position of the mobile unit so as to guide the user to a destination.

Communication and navigation system incorporating position determination

A computer peripheral is provided that combines the functionality of multiple devices, for example, a pager, a facsimile machine, and a data modem. The computer peripheral is designed as one or more separable modules, or functional components, including a module for interfacing the peripheral to a host computer.
