A combination process wherein a hydroisomerization system provides a hydrocarbon feed for an etherification system wherein unreacted alcohol is separated from the etherification effluent and passed to the fractionation column used in the hydroisomerization system so that water entrained in the unreacted alcohol can be separated from said alcohol within said fractionation column.

A process for producing ethyl tertiary butyl ether and for the substantially complete recovery by fractional distillation of the unreacted ethanol contained in an etherification reaction zone product stream as a product along with the ethyl tertiary butyl ether reaction product. This process utilizes methanol as a fractionator feed additive to enhance the recovery of ethanol as a bottoms product.

Described is a novel process for regenerating an ASO contaminated alkylation catalyst containing a sulfone component and a hydrogen halide component. A sulfone-containing mixture containing ASO and which is derived by the removal of a major portion of the hydrogen halide component of the alkylation catalyst is contacted with a reversable base selected from the group consisting of polyvinyl pyridine, amine-substituted styrene divinyl benzene copolymer and mixtures thereof so as to remove at least a portion of the ASO component from the sulfone-containing mixture to thereby produce a treated sulfone-containing mixture. The treated sulfone-containing mixture can further be processed by contacting it with an absorbent material which can include carbon and alumina.

Alkylation catalyst regeneration utilizing polyvinylpyridine and amine

Described is a novel process for regenerating an ASO contaminated alkylation catalyst which contains a sulfone component and a hydrogen halide component. The alkylation catalyst undergoes a series of separation steps to remove a significant portion of the hydrogen halide component contained therein followed by a phase separation between an ASO phase and a sulfone phase. The sulfone phase is then contacted with a carbon material to remove a portion of any remaining ASO contained in the sulfone.

Disclosed is a process for removing acid soluble oils, produced as an undesirable by-product of an HF catalyzed alkylation reaction, from a liquid containing a sulfone compound. The process includes the use of a solvent to extract the acid soluble oils from a sulfone-containing fluid that has previously been neutralized by a treating step.

The process includes the use of water to induce the formation of the two immiscible liquid phases of ASO and sulfone with water. The two immiscible phases can subsequently be separated from each other.

A process is provided comprising contacting under deodorizing conditions, at least one deodorizing composition with at least one poly(mono-1-olefin), wherein said deodorizing conditions comprise, a standard pressure from about 1 to about 5, and a standard temperature from about 0.5 to about 2.5.

A method of producing ethanol from a fermentation source for direct blending into gasoline to form gasohol is provided by extracting ethanol from the fermentation broth with a non-toxic solvent compatible with gasoline. The invention includes extraction outside of the fermentor and the recycling of the extracted broth back to the fermentor. An extracting column is used for the extraction and recycling and the extract can be dried before blending it with the gasoline. The preferred solvent is an alkylate.
