A vehicle includes a vehicle body including a quarter panel assembly. The quarter panel assembly includes an inner quarter panel and an outer quarter panel located outboard of the inner quarter panel forming a volume therebetween. The outer quarter panel has a vent opening extending therethrough. A quarter vent assembly is connected to the outer quarter panel covering the vent opening. An exterior fascia covers the quarter vent assembly such that an air gap is provided between the quarter vent assembly and the exterior fascia. A service hole cover is located in the volume between the inner quarter panel and the outer quarter panel. The service hole cover includes a cover body and a noise reduction flange at a bottom of the cover body that extends inboard toward the inner quarter panel at the vent opening.

A storage compartment of a console assembly for a vehicle includes a housing and a sliding tray. The housing includes a storage area defined by a floor, a pair of sidewalls and a pair of end walls. The housing includes an opening permitting access to the storage area. Each of the pair of sidewalls includes a track. The sliding tray includes an upper storage surface, a bottom wall, and a pair of sidewalls that extend upwardly from side edges of the bottom wall beyond at least a portion of the upper storage surface. Each of the pair of sidewalls includes an outwardly extending rail that engages with the track on each of the pair of sidewalls of the housing to permit the sliding tray to slide with respect to the housing.

A cup holder assembly for a console assembly of a vehicle includes a cover, a housing, a light source, a support frame, and a light emitting assembly. The cover includes an exterior surface, an opposite interior surface, and an opening extending between the exterior surface and the interior surface. The housing includes an open ended receptacle. The housing is connected to the interior surface of the cover such that the opening permits access to the open ended receptacle. The support frame is connected to at least one of the cover and the housing. The light emitting assembly is positioned between the interior surface of the cover and the support frame. The light emitting assembly is oriented to emit light outwardly away from the exterior surface of the cover.

A cup holder assembly for a console assembly of a vehicle includes a cover, a housing, a light source, and a support frame. The cover includes an exterior surface, an opposite interior surface, and an opening extending between the exterior surface and the interior surface. The housing includes an open ended receptacle defined by a floor and at least one sidewall. The at least one sidewall includes a slit. The housing is connected to the interior surface of the cover such that the opening of the cover permits access to the open ended receptacle. The support frame is connected to at least one of the cover and the housing. The light source is mounted to the support frame such that the light source is positioned adjacent the slit in the at least one sidewall to illuminate an interior of the receptacle.

Cup holder assemblies having lighting features for console assemblies of vehicles

A glove compartment box energy having a tear seam on an inner wall is provided. The glove compartment box is mounted in an instrument panel of a vehicle. The tear seam is configured to allow a rearward moving structure from within the instrument panel such as a portion of the vehicle HVAC system to rupture the tear seam and enter an interior volume of the glove compartment box. The glove compartment box further has a frangible portion disposed on the inner wall. The frangible portion extends towards an interior of the instrument panel to concentrate stress on the tear seam. The tear seam and frangible portion prevent the rearward moving structure from displacing the glove compartment box rearward into a passenger compartment.

A console assembly for a vehicle and installment method are provided wherein the console is installed around a vehicle shifter assembly. The assembly includes a main body wherein the main body includes a shifter assembly mounted thereon, an elongated bracket mounted to the shifter assembly wherein the elongated bracket includes at least two protrusions, and a console assembly having at least two elongated portions wherein each of the elongated portions includes an inner wall. Attachment structures operable to accept the protrusions of the elongated bracket are mounted on the inner walls of the elongated portions of the center console. The center console having the at least two elongated portions is mounted over the shifter onto the elongated bracket allowing the at least two protrusions of the elongated bracket to attach to the means to accept the at least two protrusions thereby eliminating the need for any additional bolts or screws.

An instrument panel assembly of an automotive vehicle is provided wherein the instrument panel is operable to hold a meter cluster. The meter cluster is positioned adjacent to a shifter of an automotive vehicle. The meter cluster is mounted within the center of the vehicle. The instrument panel includes a main panel having a plurality of apertures located adjacent to the meter cluster. A mounting aperture for the meter cluster is provided wherein the meter cluster is mounted to the mounting aperture for the meter cluster. The plurality of apertures on the main panel located adjacent to the meter cluster are operable to weaken the structure of the main panel to facilitate a controlled collapse of the instrument panel when the shifter hits the meter cluster. The positioning of the apertures located adjacent to the meter cluster prevents damage to the meter cluster during the accident.

The present invention can include a panel assembly and method to make the panel assembly to be installed in an instrument panel, the panel assembly having a front panel and a side panel. The front panel and side panel can be covered with a flexible covering. The flexible covering on the front panel and the flexible covering on the side panel can be wrapped around the respective panel in a joint area where the front panel and side panel meet. A compression force in the joint area can help secure the flexible coverings. The front panel and/or the side panel can also have one or more attachment means, such as clips, fastener holes and the like for attaching the panel assembly to the instrument panel.

A knee airbag housing assembly including a cover panel, a box case, and a lower panel. The cover panel has an upper support portion and a lower support portion extending transversely from a cantilevered support portion. A tear seam formed between the upper cover and lower cover portion. A lower support portion extends transversely from a cantilevered support on the lower cover portion of said cover panel. The box case supports an airbag module and has a lower wall with a distal end lower wall extending towards the cover panel. The box case is fitted in the space between the upper support and lower support portions such that the distal end lower wall of the box spring is disposed closer to the cantilevered support than the terminal edge of the lower panel.

Knee airbag housing assembly

A mounting system for temporarily holding a device proximate to a panel while an individual works on the device, before the device is mounted to the panel, is provided. The mounting system can include a generally L-shaped bracket that has a catch tab extending from a distal end of the bracket. A panel is also included, the panel having a key hole with a catch slot. The catch tab can be passed through the key hole and engage the catch slot, thereby providing a temporary mount for a device attached to the generally L-shaped bracket.

Mounting system and method thereof

A panel for accepting a switch is disclosed, the panel having a generally rigid member with a front side and a back side. The generally rigid member also has a first edge and a second edge defining an aperture, through which the switch passes at least partially through. The back side of the rigid member has a first rib that extends therefrom, the first rib being proximate to the first edge and having a step that is operable to engage a barb of the switch that passes at least partially through the aperture. The back side also has a second rib that extends therefrom, the second rib being proximate to the second edge and also operable to engage a barb of the switch passing at least partially through the aperture.
