A method forms a butt joint between ends of first and second plies and splices the first and second plies together. The method includes the steps of: positioning a first splice edge of a first ply at a first location; positioning a second splice edge of a second ply at a second location, the second splice edge being left bare; wrapping a gum strip around the first splice edge such that the first gum strip forms a U-shaped structure in section that allows the first gum strip to extend from a first planar side of the first ply over the first splice edge to a second opposite planar side of the first ply; not wrapping a gum strip around the second splice edge; placing the first splice edge in abutting relationship to the second splice edge; and stitching the first splice edge to the second splice edge such that stitches each extend from the first planar side of the first ply, through the gum strip, to the first planar side of the second ply.

An off the road tire comprising a carcass, a tread located radially outward of the carcass, the tread having a plurality of lugs, the lugs extending radially outward from an inner tread and being located between first and second lateral tread edges, a first row of lugs extending from the tread lateral edge axially inwards toward the centerplane, a second row of lugs extending from the opposite tread lateral edge and axially inwards toward the centerplane and wherein the lugs of the first and second rows are separated by a plurality of shoulder grooves, a third row of lugs located between the first and second row of lugs, wherein all of the lugs in each row are aligned circumferentially, wherein the lugs in the third row have two or more ends formed by grooves.

A tire and method of building a tire is described wherein the tire has a carcass having a pair of sidewall plies and a bridge ply, each ply being reinforced with cords, the sidewall plies each having a first end which is received between the bridge ply and a belt reinforcing structure; wherein each sidewall ply extends axially outward along the sidewall and extending radially inwardly to the bead core and folded from a position axially outside the bead core to a position axially inside and around the bead core to an axially inner turnup end; said bridge ply having ends which overlap with a respective inner turnup end of said sidewall ply.

Two-piece tire

A two-piece tire assembly with a removable tread belt for installing about the circumference of a tire carcass is provided. The inner surface of the tread belt follows a non-linear, preferably arcuate profile with a radius of curvature R across the tread belt wherein the distance Das measured from the axis of rotation to the inner surface of the tread belt extends a distance Dat the equatorial plane and curves radially inwardly to a distance Dat each belt edge such that D&#x2266;0.9*D.

A tire carcass includes a first ply portion, a second ply portion, each ply portion having an inner sidewall ply, an outer sidewall ply, a first end, a second end, and a bead core, a bridge portion, wherein the first ends of the ply portions are separated by the bridge portion, and at least two bridge plies, wherein the bridge plies span the bridge portion, wherein each of the bridge plies have a first end and a second end.

Multiple ply modular construction

A carcass for a pneumatic tire includes a first annular bead, a second annular bead, a first continuous radial ply, a second continuous radial ply, and a third non-continuous radial ply. The first radial ply has two shoulder portions and two lateral edge portions. One lateral edge portion of the first ply extends from one shoulder portion of the first ply radially inward to a location proximal to the first annular bead. The other lateral edge portion of the first ply extends from the other shoulder portion of the first ply radially inward to a location proximal to the second annular bead. The second continuous radial ply has two shoulder portions and two lateral edge portions. One lateral edge portion of the second ply extends from one shoulder portion of the second ply radially inward to a location proximal to the first annular bead. The other lateral edge portion of the second ply extends from the other shoulder portion of the second ply radially inward to a location proximal to the second annular bead. The third non-continuous radial ply has a first portion and a second portion separate and distinct from the first portion. The first portion of the third ply extends from a location proximal to one shoulder portion of the second ply to a location proximal to the first annular bead. The second portion extends from the other shoulder portion of the second ply to a location proximal to the second annular bead.

Pneumatic tire with single non-continuous carcass ply

The tire includes a first and second axially-spaced bead core, a carcass having at least one belt extending under a tread, and a first ply layer having first and second ends, a first end is located axially outside and adjacent a first bead core, and a second end that is located axially outside and adjacent a second bead core. The carcass further comprises first and second shoulder ply layers each shoulder ply layer having first and second ends, a first end is located under the tread belt, the shoulder ply extending down the side wall region with the second end folding from a position axially outside a respective bead core to a position axially inside and around the bead core. The carcass further comprises an additional reinforcement layer which wraps around the bead and is preferably positioned between the shoulder ply and the first ply layer, although not required.

Said central rubber layer may additionally contain continuous cord reinforcement.
