A Micro Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) device comprises an evaluator circuit that receives a temperature signal, where the evaluator circuit compares the received temperature signal to a lower threshold value and an upper threshold value, and where the evaluator circuit generates an evaluation signal indicating when the temperature signal is between the lower threshold value and the upper threshold value; and a loading circuit that receives the evaluation signal, where the loading circuit generates a first pre-set output signal indicating when the temperature signal is between the lower threshold value and the upper threshold value, and wherein the loading circuit generates a second pre-set output signal when the temperature signal is not between the lower threshold value and the upper threshold value, such that the MEMS device functions as a 2-wire electronic sense circuit providing both an indication state and deriving power from an external two-wire sense circuit.

An apparatus includes a sensor excited by an input voltage adapted to provide a sensor output first voltage corresponding to a physical input excitation. A transformation circuit device provides the operational voltage to the sensor, detects the sensor output first voltage, nulls an amount of offset voltage in the sensor output first voltage, amplifies the nulled offset sensor output first voltage, and provide a noise filtered and temperature compensated output second voltage. A simulator circuit receives the compensated output second voltage and provides an output third voltage representative of a simulated bridge sensor, being absent of offset voltage, and being independent of temperature dependence and noise in the sensor.

A pressure capsule embedded in a pacemaker lead to monitor intracardiac chamber pressure is described. This pressure monitor capsule provides highly accurate pressure readings while insuring a high integrity seal against bodily fluids and tissue growth. The capsule is intended to be embedded into a pacemaker cardiac lead or a catheter with the distal (Tip) isolation diaphragm sensing pressure, coupling the pressure through an air column to a protected sensing MEMS device and providing a secure fluid seal to the lead walls. The proximal (Back) end of the capsule provides the electrical interface through the lead to the pacemaker pulse generator.

Lead embedded pressure sensor

A medical instrument including a cannula or probe used to penetrate tissue to a target area to perform a medical procedure including biopsy and RF ablation of undesirable tissues or cells for treatment, or to prevent the spread of cancer cells during a biopsy procedure. The probe is preferably shape changeable. The probe may be hollow or solid having an exterior surface coated with a dielectric material, a preferably sharpened beveled tip at a distal end coated with a resistor material, and means for coupling the probe to an RF generator and control device. The RF generator provides current to the probe. The dielectric material provides a predominant impedance characteristic of the probe in contact with tissue, thus changes in impedance will vary primarily based on the area of the probe in contact with tissue. The control device monitors the impedance of the probe and based thereon calculates the area of the probe in contact with tissue, then adjusts the current in order to maintain an approximately constant current density over the area of the probe in contact with tissue, thereby preventing hot spots and fulguration. A thermocouple may be formed at the tip of the probe, or other temperature sensing device may be used. If a temperature sensing device is used, the control device may also monitor the temperature to determine the efficacy of treatment. RF energy directors may be used with the invention to control the shape of the RF energy field.

Method for biopsy and ablation of tumor cells

The present invention provides compensation for temperature in a transducer by connecting the adjustment resistors to the transducer itself to provide a correct transducer output. A number of switches are used to couple the adjustment resistors to the transducer circuit. An individual resistor may be coupled in parallel or in series with a transducer resistance. The control input for the switches are each coupled to a separate bit output of a multiple bit memory. The memory is programmed to control the duty cycle of the switches when addressed.
