A personal care device is provided with a cutting unit comprising an external cutting member and an internal cutting member. A virtual skin plane is located on a side of the external cutting member facing away from the internal cutting member. The internal cutting member comprises cutting elements each having a first cutting edge. The external cutting member comprises hair-entry apertures each having a second cutting edge. In a starting position of cutting a hair situated in a cutting position in the hair-entry aperture and extending perpendicularly to the virtual skin plane, the first cutting edge is in contact with the hair in a first contact position, and the second cutting edge is in contact with the hair in a second contact position, wherein the first contact position is closer to the virtual skin plane than the second contact position.

A shaving apparatus includes at least one cutting unit having an outer shaving surface or contacting the skin, interrupted by hair entry apertures, and an internal cutter which is drivable for movement along the hair entry apertures for cutting off hairs projecting through the hair entry apertures. A suspension member, via which the external cutter is suspended relative to the holder, is tiltable relative to the holder about a tilting axis located more closely to a first peripheral portion of the shaving surface than to a second peripheral portion of the shaving surface opposite to the first peripheral portion of the shaving surface.

The invention relates to a shaving head () comprising at least two bladeshaped cutting members (&#x2033;) each having a straight cutting edge (&#x2033;) extending parallel to a longitudinal direction (Y) of the shaving head. Each cutting member is supported in a cartridge () of the shaving head by means of a supporting member () which supports the respective cutting member in a supported area () on the respective cutting member. Said supported area extends over a predetermined distance (D) perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. Each supporting member has a first portion () in contact with the supported area at a location remote from the cutting edge of the respective cutting member and a second portion () in contact with the supported area at a location near the cutting edge of the respective cutting member. The first portion has a basic cross-sectional area, seen perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction, and the second portion has a reduced cross-sectional area. According to the invention, the second portion () of the supporting member () of at least one of the cutting members (&#x2033;) extends over at least half of said predetermined distance (D). In this manner, the free space between two adjacent cutting members is considerably increased. As a result, the rinsability of the shaving head is improved, so that the risk of shaving debris accumulation between two adjacent cutting members is reduced.

According to the invention the periodical motion is effected in an imaginary plane which extends transversely to the cutting edge () and which has a first motion portion () and a second motion portion () following the first motion portion. The first motion portion is mainly directed in the cutting direction (X), and the second motion portion is mainly directed opposite to the cutting direction and is closer to the skin () than the first motion portion.
